I don't think DeSantis announces until after the legislative session, which would be in June.
That would be good timing for RDD, IMO. Let Trump punch at air for several months. Get a sense as to where the attacks will come. Formulate and pretest responses. Select the most effective surrogates.

In the end, Trump's most effective attack will be RDD's indebtedness to donors. RDD had better spend the next several months sorting out ways to defuse that, or effectively counterattack.

Assuming the DOJ does not somehow take Trump out of the race, I'd give RDD a 30% chance at best. If he joins the race before mid-April, I'd cut his chances in half.

Just watch who supports him and you'll know all you need to know. Who's Jeb voting for? Who's Liz Cheney looking at? I don't know about you but whomever the GOPe is lining up behind is who I'm NOT pulling the lever for.

I'm be more focused on who lines up behind the GOPe than who the GOPe lines up behind.

I'm watching very closely and watching who the media gets behind. I still want to wait for Ron to announce and want to heat what he says about Ukraine and the border before I make a decision.

"DeSantis is worse than Trump" pieces have been out for a while.

They want Trump because he's good for business and he's easy to beat

Sometimes it's hard to know if there's a valid distinction there or if it's just two sides of the same coin.
