There were several people defending government action on this last time it was discussed. They don’t care if it’s the proper role or not, they just want cheaper tickets and Ticketmaster (or whoever it is) pisses them off.

Ticketmaster’s monopoly is not the number 1 problem in America, but it’s definitely A problem which deserves a solution. Government regulation and government owned venues enabled ticketmaster to become this monopoly with no competition engaging in anti-consumer behavior. As such, it will take a government solution to fix it. If government creates a monopoly, then government will have to break that monopoly up. The market was already made “not-free” by the government, so the existing market is not capable of “solving” the problem on its own. The government will have to either de-regulate the ticket market or regulAte it differently because the status quo has created a monopoly that is incredibly bad for consumers and venue owners (which includes a LOT of government entities) alike.
