Nobody said it was. There’s a very large portion of the WORLD out there that has refused to continue to pay for cable services whether it be traditional or a newer version like ESPN+ or YouTubeTV. These people also resize that when their household doesn’t tune in, it hurts cable companies numbers and they intentionally avoid giving them “hits”

Since you’re just talking out of your arse with nothing to back it up, I’ll give you some numbers and links.

Cord cutting doesn't mean you're untrackable. Far from it... Talk about talking out of your arse. Anything that comes from a streaming source, like all the ones you listed are rolled into the viewership or streaming viewership numbers. You have an IP address and stream an event, even if it's a spoofed IP through a VPN, it's counted and tracked.

Oddly enough, you know where the untrackable audience actually is? People who view the game using an antenna through a local broadcast.

Nielsen DAR already tracks audiences across smart TVs, OEMs and streaming providers, and yes even the illegal stream (not all of them, though). Nielsen One which is upcoming product will track total cross media audiences. The audience your claiming that is being ignored, is in fact very much accounted for. This is what firms like Nielsen are paid massively to to. Find the audience numbers wherever they are.

And yes, the untrackable audience is miniscule in this context. The volume of untrackable, reliable, illegal streams that take place and are not accounted for, has a very low impact on numbers (for now).

I don’t mind most of this stuff because it’s all been a part of “The Big Game” for years now. It’s one of the biggest events of the year and there’s much more than football going on, I get it. Halftime shows are hit or miss year to year, but as long as the game is good I’m content. Always enjoy hanging out at whatever SB party is going on and snacking.

The biggest change to me over time has been the commercials. It’s like they’re trying too hard now and lost some of the charm. I remember the Monday after talking about everyone’s favorites and the 5 are so best being memorable. Aside from the movie trailer debuts, I feel like none really stick anymore like they used to.

now more a media vehicle than a game
Not a game at all, anymore. Like the rest of the NFL season and all teams, it is scripted like WWE, from start to finish.

Illegal stream sites aren’t taking into account for the millions of numbers you posted.

Just putting out a field that wouldn’t be a disgrace for a preseason game should be priority 1

But was the social justice message in the back of the end zone legible?

It's to the point where I record the game and start watching an 30-40 minutes past kick-off.

Cuts through all the bullshite. No commercials. No halftime shitfest. Just a ball game.

They've been losing about 2 million viewers a year since then, so more and more production isn't helping. 2015 they had close to 115 million viewers and have steadily declined and dropped down to 98 and 95 million the last couple years.

“Sunday’s matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles was the third most-watched Super Bowl ever, as the NFL continues to attract record audiences. The 113 million total audience tops the 112 million Americans who watched last year’s super bowl but falls short of 2015’s record audience of 114.4 million.”

“Rihanna’s halftime show averaged 118.7 million viewers, per Fox, a 15% from the 103.4 million average audience for the 2022 halftime show featuring Dr. Dre.”

So viewership isn’t declining year after year, and people tune in even more for the excess entertainment than they do the actual game.

I don't watch pregame, halftime, or post game activities.

It's just too much fluff.

Thank goodness for gilstrap tv on YouTube.

I just bet that at least 20,000 fans showed up for the halftime show. The was just the reason to go…

I remember SB44 with the Saints. I think WWL-870 started pregame coverage at like 9:00 in the morning.

They're not allowed to really be funny anymore. They can't risk offending anyone anymore since society has dumped its sense of humor.

Every year like clockwork this thread is started. And every year it flames out.

NFL is king. 82 of the 100 most-watched programs on TV in 2022 were NFL games.

Third Most-Watched Television Show All-Time

Largest Super Bowl Audience Since 2017

Most-Streamed Super Bowl Ever and Most-Streamed Event in FOX Sports History

Second most-watched non-overtime Super Bowl on record and the second most-watched program in FOX Sports history
182.6 million viewers watched all or part of Super Bowl LVII on FOX and FOX Deportes

Super Bowl LVII on FOX ran away in primetime viewership across all networks with a 40.0/77 household rating/share. 1st time back in the 40's since before COVID.

The Halftime Show, was the most watched Super Bowl halftime show since Katy Perry’s performance in 2015 and second most-watched Super Bowl halftime performance on record

Super Bowl LVII was the most-streamed Super Bowl in history up +18% over last year (vs. 6 million) and up +103% over FOX’s last Super Bowl stream in 2020 (vs. 3.4 million)
