The "Dr." Phil Show is coming to an end

The doctor is out... and has been when his physician license expired in 2006.
But now Phil McGraw, who’s not a doctor but plays one on TV, is finally hanging up his imaginary lab coat.
The arguments against McGraw are many and they are great.
Despite having a net worth of in the hundreds of millions, Phil McGraw has no problem trotting a camera crew in front of clearly unwell individuals.
Shelly Duvall starred with Robin Williams in 1980’s Popeye. Duvall was distinctly delusional, making absurd claims that her former costar was still alive. To those with the least bit of scruples, this would have been a clear red flag. Despite this, Dr. Phil, who holds the same active medical license as Phil the groundhog, had no issue placing this tidbit in the advertisement for the particular program.
Survivor winner Todd Herzog claims he was not intoxicated when he arrived on set but he was given a bottle of vodka and a Xanax pill before his TV appearance. Of course, the production denies these claims. Regardless, a highly intoxicated Herzog was show on stage for the world to see and will live on the internet for decades to come.
Not only does he have no problem having intoxicated guests on the show, he has no problem making a fool out of people while they’re on his show.
One guest's parents were unhappy with a young man because he abruptly quit his job to become a YouTuber. To his credit he has since accumulated hundreds of thousands of followers. Dr. Phil advised the young man he should have a plan in place for his near future. The young guy replied that he did have a plan in place and proceeded to explain what it was. When the episode aired the Dr. Phil team conveniently edited out his response, making the guy look like he quit his job w/o thinking it through.

A year or two ago, not a doctor Phil, berated and mocked a 22 year old for living with his grandma.

Early in his tenure, he had a massive overweight individual from Alaska on his stream. That individual claimed after six months, Phil’s team was no longer providing any support but the episode still plays on occasion to this day in reruns. The man died over a decade ago.
I always questioned the legitimacy of his show. Early in the show's history, Doctor -in name only- Phil, had an episode with some doofus who created a series of "Bum fights" DVDs.
Fake Dr. Phil essentially shows a 90 second advertisement for the bum fights material as the creator walks onto the stage. At 1:44 in the link below, Phil says, "Stop the tape", then blatantly fake 1980s VCR static appears as the video stops, and the creator is kicked off the show. However, if you play the video in slow motion, you'll see the fake static appears slightly BEFORE Phil says "Stop the tape."
This was over a decade ago but McGraw never answered any questions on the topic of the legitimacy of this episode

Perhaps the worst part is that he actually has children on the show.
Early in his tenure, not a doctor Phil claimed a 9 year old child had more “characteristics of a serial killer” than Jeffrey Dahmer.
In the same program, McGraw said the following, “Every parent should know the warning signs. For the most violent of criminals, there are 14 traits of serial killers. Now meet parents terrified of their own son, who has nine of the 14 traits."
This brought on much warranted criticism from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.
If you’re wondering, that was done in front of 13 million viewers.

In a much more recent episode, McGraw showed a child at home ridiculing his mother. At least now, the kid's face was blurred out but make no mistake, everyone in school is going to know who he is and it will stick with him until adulthood and probably longer.
Most obnoxious of all is when he makes an imprudent statement and the marks in the audience chime in laughing and applauding. Just so we’re on the same page, marks in the world of professional wrestling are fans who thinks the product is real, much like how the fans in McGraw’s audience think he’s a real doctor.
I think that’s enough examples. Dr. Phil show, good riddance.

Man this post is full of hate. 20 years on air and he gets his worst moments blasted as soon as he retired.
He’s done some good as well. There are certainly far worse things on tv. Horror movies are celebrated while a guy giving live advice is ridiculed. Strange world.

Bum fights guy had the stones to troll him to his face.
The more I learn about Phil, the more of an absolute a-hole he seems to be.

I can’t imagine he ever had a physicians license given he was never a physician.

Didn’t watch tv show. Never once saw a tv clip or YouTube video of a single moment of it. Careth not.

Dr. Phil has PhD. He was never a "physician", but rather a clinical psychologist. His license in that field, through Texas, lapsed in 2006 and he did not renew it. If you're going to quibble, is it too much to ask that you do so in an informed, competent manner?

Cool story, bro. So, is Oprah, Maury, or Jerry Springer more your speed?

For context, Dr Phil invited him on the show to accost him of taking advantage of emotionally distressed people. He dressed up as Dr Phil to show he does the same exact thing.
