Coaching burnout my arse. The only burnout was his tires screeching to get out of the mess he left behind.
Spot on... and left the city in a mess too... He could have spoken up and supported police in a though time, but instead he jumped on the BLM, anti cop, anti gun, anti Trump bandwagon... Kneeling all the way... All the while crime was getting worse and worse by emboldened criminals.
Yup... It was a BS excuse... so much for needing a break from coaching... Back at it in exactly 1 year...

I always liked Sean. Still do. Always loved how he wouldn't miss a chance to take a shot at Atlanta. I'm not pulling for Denver now, but it was fun having that dude for the last 15 years.

I was disappointed as much as all of us but you can't make someone be where they don't want to be and he clearly reached that point.
I think it is also fair to say that he made a mess and cut and run. He made a lot of messes that Loomis swept under the table which led to the salary cap hell we had. He knew and really didn't care that he couldn't replace Brees and would rather start over somewhere. So he used his friendships here to bail. Whatever.
As good as Payton was, he was also very frustrating and stubborn. His approach was dependent on players to run his system and I don't think he has it in him to win at a high level again without the perfect QB. Russell sure didn't look like that this year but maybe he will click with Payton. Time will tell. The Saints were fricked with or without him.

Belly Check didn’t quit New England when Brady left.

Those in the know understand your post is spot on. But many Saints fans will not allow themselves to come to that conclusion as its an admission we cannot have nice things for long ever again. Maybe if we get the 1 next year and Caleb forces the trade they'll come around and realize moving the team is the only way out of this mess.

At least he did not end up in Dallas.
The man gave us 15 great years and is now over in the AFC. He does not have an easy job in front of him. Broncos offense was hard to watch this year. AFC West is stacked.
I am a little surprised he did not take the Houston job and start with Bryce Young from tho start. Much easier division.

I dont care how many years he gave us. The dude didnt give us any indication of leaving us, left mid contract, and left us with no QB. Payton can suck it.
