If you’re going to name a facility or court after someone it should be damn near unanimous that it’s deserving. Everyone celebrated Skip Bertman field. No one would say Maravich didn’t deserve the PMAC.

The fact that there is this much division on Brown’s name being on the court shows it should have never happened in the first place.

Quite frankly, it should be and needs to be undone. It should be left for someone more deserving.

I didn't know all the political shenanigans that were going on here until I heard Tim Brando ranting and raving about it on WWL radio tonight. It should have come as no surprise.

It is must listening. I am sure the replay will be posted on the WWL website. It was on from about 5:25 to 5:45.

Brando is going to have a stroke about this. His reaction is so strange to me.

y understanding is they started trying to get it named after Brown a decade ago but it passed last year. I talked to a friend who has some scoop and said they tried to do Brown/Gunter last year but it was voted down and now a board member has pressured JBE/Tate to add Gunters name.

Yes, Mary leach Werner

Assuming all that’s true and they ambushed Brown that’s pretty shitty but guys like Brando and Vitale don’t help matters

I concur. It just displays how dirty Louisiana is as a whole politically. Money talks and bullshite walks.

Actually I’d rather have no one’s name. Put their names in the ring of honor or on banners in the rafters with retired numbers or something like that.

This is a reasonable compromise.

I have to say that I agree with Brando. Of course I was in school at the height of the Dale Brown era and am a big fan of his. Gunther was there at the time too, although I don't think anyone realized it.

His reaction is strange defending a life long friend and one at that he contributes his career to?

Yea, I don’t see why they needed his name on the court. He’s been recognized already. Move on.

Yes it is. No one is removing his name. And I have no idea how adding a name is so offensive to anyone or is somehow diminishing his accomplishments.

What’s strange is why he thinks have the WBB coaches name on the court is some kind of slap in the face to his “lifelong friend”

I mean was it an insult to Denney when they added Bryant to the stadium? Or who ever was first out of Hare and Jordan?

Dude we’re talking about the name on a basketball court, in the grand scheme of things that’s completely meaningless. There’s got to be millions of examples of dirty politics that are far far worse it is a state where multiple governors have gone to jail

He has stated she already has a statue

I don’t know, is it? I’m not arguing with you.

As I have stated before it’s a microcosm. It’s just on full display to the public and is embarrassing.

That doesn’t explain why he’s come completely unglued over this. I get they ambushed Brown but added Gunters name is not an insult, it really isn’t.

The answer is no.

So? Still doesn’t explain why he is coming unhinged over this. He’s an old man yelling at clouds and doing more harm than good now.

As stated before, he is defending a life long friend who he holds in high regard and has stated he owes his career to. Additionally stated she already has a statue and I’ve never stated that it is an insult.

Of course it is, that question was rhetorical.

I hate to break this to you but people asking for favors (or arm twisting if you prefer) in exchange for support on something is basically how all politics is done. If you’re embarrassed by this I can’t imagine what you feel about the deals done for Kevon McCarthy to get Spwaker

There’s nothing actually “dirty” being done here. It’s about the name on a freaking basketball court. We’re not talking about contracts given to someones brother in law or withholding funding on some important project.

It’s pretty shitty that they ambushed an old man on his birthday but then again why didn’t they just add both last year, give one day to each? Name the court for Gunter for women’s games. There’s no reason for Brando and Vitale to come unglued, if this is what causes embarrassment outrage and highlights corruption then things are a lot better than I thought

It’s cool man. You don’t know all the players or the full story. I’m not arguing with you nor am I taking sides. I’ve just attempted to interpret Brando’s expressed opinion from multiple interviews he’s done.
