If he doesn't see a problem, he's not going to do anything about it. He sees the medication as a solution when he needs to realize it is a tool, part of a toolbox of good habits and tactics that ALL help him manage his ADHD (if he has it). Exercise, good sleep hygiene, meditating, healthy eating habits are all important.
I honestly don't understand why his doctor is allowing him to continue. Is he seeing a psychiatrist or just going through his regular doctor? My doctor will prescribe up to a certain dose but if a patient feels they need more, it is office policy to transfer that portion of care to a psychiatrist as there is more support needed than just meds.

If you want to get onto a really good topic, simply ask how humans survived and functioned prior to the invention of these stimulants. If ADD/ADHD was such an issue to the extent we see now prior to the medications’ invention, humanity would neither have survived nor prospered. Nothing would have been built or invented. Society must have been at an absolute standstill.
It is an exaggerated issue that is extremely overprescribed but it is a legitimate condition that affects a small percentage.
Even without the meds, society would still function and thrive. There would just be a small percentage of people that probably wouldn’t reach their same potential.
For some, it’s not something that can just be tackled through hard work and self discipline.

Seriously, OP, good luck. Back in the 60's-early 70's there was a saying, "speed kills". It's nasty shite and tweakers can be scary for several reasons. I hope your friend can kick it.

It's an actual psychiatrist that's been practicing for quite a while. Something I've brought up to him was that he never goes and sits in front of the Dr, it's always a video visit and it's once every 3 months. The Dr gives him 3 months worth of scripts at a time. At this point the visit seems like more of a technicality.
It is a local doctor though with a local office. Not like some out of state teledoc type.

Scruffy has cut of a piece off a 20 mg methylphenidate that was less than 5 mg and taken that before and felt like his heart was going to beat out of his chest.
How did you survive?
High tolerance. I drink maybe 5 cups of coffee a day. I expect my heart to explode any day now.

So Today makes a month that I’ve been off adderall. It was tough to quit but I didn’t cold turkey it. I slowly weened myself off of it. I was taking 3-4 30’s a day since 2019. It really does come down to the person and their mindset. I’m in such a better place now that I’ve quit that shite. It took a good 3-4 months to get here but it was worth it.

he's convinced himself is ok because it's legally prescribed to him.
Is he aware that cocaine, heroin, chloroform, morphine, opium, meth were all once legally prescribed “medications”?

Addiction is giving up everything for one thing.
Sobriety is giving up one thing for everything.
His move. Something to consider at its simplest form.

Hallucinations and a trip to the mental hospital usually accompanies Adderall abuse. It's legal meth.

I've never tried one but I've tried coke back in college and if it's anything like that then I can see why it's easy to abuse it.
Adderall is way more addictive than coke. Few people rely on coke on a daily basis it’s usually just a party drug
Adderall has a hard comedown if you’ve taken it regularly. It’s basically legal meth without the teeth rotting properties. My wife has ADHD really bad and needs adderall but it can become a problem. She started taking too much and I talked to her about it, she agreed and told her Dr to cut dosage from 60mg a day to 40mg. It was tough the first month because she would take extra on days she had a lot to do and would run out but she has gradually acclimated to a lower dose and does just fine now taking her 40
Mg
90mg is way too much and that doctor shouldn’t have prescribed that much daily. IT’s recommended not to go over 60mg a day

For a while, I took a 25mg Adderall XR in the morning w/ a 150mg Wellbutrin XL, followed by 70mg Vyvanse in the afternoon. I'm off the Adderall now, but I do miss it.
That is a drug abuse problem there pal.

I don't understand how it affects some people. I have a friend that takes Vivance(sp) and it calms them down so that they can settle, focus and get things done. If they don't take it, they're a live wire all over the place, an unorganized mess. Weird.
People who actually need Adderall are like this. The rest of them just take it to stay up and be "productive"
i am dyslexic but was given every ADHD drug over the years. The only productive thing i ever did with them is sell them in college. I would spend more time curating my ipod than studying when I took it.

It's hard to tame any drug addiction. That's why so many addicts relapse.
quote:In my personal experience, this was impossible. That's why I went to the streets to get my drugs. I've also never seen any of the other people I was around do this either. Not saying it can't, just highly unlikely.
Have you known anyone to go back to taking it as prescribed once they start abusing it

this shite right here is damn near as bad, or worse than the OPs situation...
you are taking the longest acting stimulant in the afternoon? and Wellbutrin blocks the reuptake of dopamine, which is being poured into your synapses with the Adderall and Vyvanse, so you are essentially extending and heightening your "high" with them... your doctor is either really fricking stupid, really negligent, or really doesn't give a frick

Appreciate that! Just took it upon myself. I realized I was spiraling out of control and making terrible life choices. It feels good to be healthy again. especially now that I go to the gym again instead of staying up for days at a time tweaking.
