He wasn’t even their first option and we gave up a pick.

Definitely would’ve had they waited

When the Broncos decided they want to hire SP, the Saints were then bound by professional courtesy to work out the trade with Denver. They were never going to tell a team that they couldnt hire him. It was up to the Saints to get the most as possible with no leverage. This is a rare scenario but NFL front offices are not going to screw each other out of spite.

Miss out on a potential difference maker

So blow up a trade that gives you a first and a second, which are far more valuable, to keep a third?

People here were thinking we’d get the #3 overall pick for a coach that hasn’t won anything of significance since 2009

We have no idea what went on with that trade. For all we know, CGJ said he wouldnt play for the Saints anymore and was bound to be a locker room cancer. There was lots of smoke about this. He wanted to be paid and we couldnt pay him. Is what it is.

So a ton of playoff appearances aren't significant? Only a super bowl is considered significant? I guess the league is 95% full of insignificant coaches

I mean yeah it's been awesome to choke routinely in the playoffs.

At the end of the year only one fanbase is happy

Lol there was no other teams interested in hiring him. You dont turn down this trade without any other suitors just out of spite. This board is unrealistic. We were never getting 2 firsts.

This. It’s Broncos fans who should be pissed.

We ended up with a low 1st and a third for a coach who quit on us. Your stupid.

If you think we got fleeced, you are a moron and cannot be helped. You can say you don't like giving up the 3rd but that's not being fleeced. The draft value of a 1st + a mid 2nd rounder outweighs a third by a significant margin. The Saints didn't want this to go another year and that's a good deal for a guy who isn't coming back. I have no idea why people are throwing a fit about this.

We didn’t get fleeced. Expectations were insane on this board.

With that being said if we tell Denver no on the 2024 third do they really let that stop the deal from happening? I HIGHLY doubt it.

The league would have stepped in and made the Saints come to the table.

All I know is our total trade value for Sean Payton is less than the pick we gave Philly. Loomis rarely seems to get the best of trades

Agreed. Basically for a 2nd. What a ridiculous trade.
