I think there is definitely a skill to getting 3 times through the order or into the 7th inning or later. I'm not a huge fan of overall trend of shortening starts and then throwing every reliever on the roster for 3 batters the rest of the game.

Longer starts and more multi-inning relievers. That's my platform for president in 2024.

Longer starts would definitely help, but I'd like to see more multi-inning relief appearances. I think this LSU pitching staff is set up for that. A guy like Taylor, Collins, or Shores coming in and going 2-3 innings out of the pen to shut things down would be

No doubt. 93-94 mph fastballs have become batting practice for good college hitters. Even 95+ flat fastballs are gonna get crushed by a lot of SEC guys.

I don’t think we’ve ever had this many guys who can hit 95+. And I don’t think it’s close.

And have we ever had SIX scholarship LHP's on one team?

Agree, interesting to see how our pitching develops, some good arms as far as power, but do we have pitchers/control……

FTR getting a kid from 75 to 90 is much easier than getting a kid from 95+ to 100

If u havent heard the latest hey fighting tigers podcast it featured Skenes and Hurd.. its a great listen.

They discussed our pitching lab and the force plate mound we have that measures how much force your legs put into the mound. Apparently the more force put into the mound the harder you throw.. and coach Wes Johnson is on the forefront of this technology.

Skenes said something like "Ive never understood why my stuff was good, why i got guys out".. scary to think the jump these guys can make with Wes and the lab.

Tommy White 113.6 mph

Can you imagine we have a man on 3rd (the go ahead run) and Tommy White steps up to the plate with one out? Infielders scoot up with their toes touching the grass? Some poor MFer might leave the field in a body bag....

Collins at 95 is nice too

that's a jump up, and will make the curve even more deadly

Had a former teammate at MSU named Jay Powell. He was a 1st round draft pick in '93 that pitched in the majors for a decade of so.

At the time, he was considered one of the best fastball pitchers in college baseball. He topped out around 88-89 mph. These days the elite college fastball guys are throwing 98 mph.

Pretty remarkable.

To that point, speaks to how much of an outlier Big Ben was in the late 80's throwing 94-95 mph.

this is true. in 1994 RA Dickey (future Cy Young winner and knuckler) entered Tennessee throwing 92 or 93 max. He was thought of as a fireballer. This was twenty-nine years ago.

I would expect the Box to be electric.

Yep, this is when everyone will realize that what was wrong with the Box wasn’t architectural; it was the trajectory of the team.

Fake news. People had the same issues in 2012, 2013 (OU super), 2015, 2017 (State super). Those were great crowds and great teams but the box still sucks from the fans experience and the atmosphere doesn’t compare to what takes place at Ole Miss, State, Arky…

We literally won a national championship the first season the new box was open and some of the complaints then are the same we have now. “These bleachers from the old box are just a one year thing”.

I didn’t go back that far for that very reason. At that time people were told the OF was temporary, the suites and concourse would extend all the way down the lines (like Baum).

2017 (State super).

My friends and I still talk about how awesome a time we had at the 2017 supers. It was a top 5 LSU baseball moment for us. The last game with the rain delays and walking out of Alex Box with thousands of fans at 2 in the morning was very memorable.

I was there. It got so loud with every Canny pitching change in that rain. He was so desperate.

Really hope Collins puts it all together this year. He’s looked good in the past but he seems like a guy who’d really benefit from an elite pitching coach and could progress big time

The pitching will be night and day. So much more talent this yr.

I think hurd is going to be elite.

Ackenhausen is the only pitcher that hasn't seen time yet, aside from the guys injured. Hopefully Ack is healthy. I have high hopes for him.

As do i.

What's up with him?
