Gun for Vehicle - Size Restraint

Looking to start keeping a gun in my SUV. There's a compartment next to the steering wheel that may be a good spot. Size is 5" (W) x 6" (H) x 3" (depth). Any recommendations on what I can keep in here?

Weak. Get a gun safe made for vehicles.

You are free to do what you want but I highly suggest you dont leave a gun overnight in your vehicle. I can't tell you how many serial numbers I ran when I worked at a store from snatch and grabs out of vehicles. A lot of the same people would come by looking for another car gun too. Infuriating. Don't leave one in there. Take it out when you get back home.

go to this cool website and start comparing pistols and sizes and see what fits in your tray .... then go physically handle the pistols
I carry a Shadow Systems MR20 Elite and my son carries a G43

I keep an Sig 365 on a magnet just beneath my steering column. When I leave the vehicle I either take it with me or hide it out of sight

perfect; thanks.
Looks like the Sig 365 would fit.

I'm talking about going to/from work or a restuarant etc.. where I can't take it out. I also had no clue this storage space was even there until I was doing some research on my vehicle for a place other than the console.

A Smith and Wesson 38 Spcl Revolver would fit perfectly in that spot. A model 442 or similar…there are tons of options with SW that are of similar size.

Do houses in Louisiana not have garages with doors?

Yes, but most people use them to store worthless garbage while leaving their $60k vehicle out in the weather. That, and so many houses are DSLD/DR Horton-type spec homes where the garages aren’t long enough for trucks.

I use it, but double-check their dimensions. I almost didn't even look at a Shield Plus based on their comparison picture to a Shield, and turns out their picture is just wrong. On the back view they show the slide on the Plus as noticeably fatter, closer to a full size in width, and it's not. The slides are identical and even interchangeable to the best of my knowledge. The Plus doesn't start getting fatter until right about where your thumb sits when gripping it.

This makes sense. If my Tundra (5.5’ bed) was much longer in wouldn’t fit in mine.

Yeah a snubnose would be fine

I love that website. I always assumed it was accurate though. Bummer if it’s not.

For all I know that’s the only mistake on it. It’s still handy, just confirm before you drop money on a gun. Or in my case, confirm before you miss out on one because you thought it was accurate.

You also have to include the baws who buy a 300k house with a garage that used to fit a 70k truck until he got that 4 inch lift.

I have a console safe in my truck and it’s great. Not just for guns but anything. It’s not unbreakable but I think it’s a good deterrent.

Thanks. I have a Taurus G2s as well that may work but have it in the house now.
