It looked like he had complete control until he was laying on the ground and the defender started ripping at it.

That wasn’t a catch. Defender made a great play.

The league is an over officiated joke.
It’s a fricking catch in every sense of the word other than the ridiculous rules that can’t account for every normal act of the human body and process of catching an object

Why does he need to maintain a catch 8 feet into out of bounds?
It makes zero sense that he has to maintain the catch all the way out of bounds, yet a runner only has to have possession and have any portion of the ball go over the goal line and it's a TD and play is over.
Posted on 1/22/23 at 3:12 pm to thelawnwranglers
The defender literally pulled the ball loose. Why should that be ignored? It wasn’t a catch.
Posted on 1/22/23 at 3:12 pm to thelawnwranglers
Per rule it's a no catch. However I believe that in the endzone if you have control with two feet in and go out of bounds it should be a catch. No matter if you lose going to the ground.

I’m not even watching the game and know it was a catch.

Caught ball in bounds two feet down TOUCHDOWN. Rig is in
Posted on 1/22/23 at 3:13 pm to thelawnwranglers
You need a legal degree to interpret a catch

Because the status of touchdown kills the play so once that theoretical "catch" is made, it's over. Should have been a TD and play over the millisecond his 2nd foot came down in bounds

This is what I don’t understand. Just have to break goaline for play to be over but catch it in the end zone and you can get it stripped after possession

Yeah that's ridiculous. TD! This catch rule is too subjective. You can barely break the plane stretching the ball out and lose control and it's a TD. Chase never dropped the ball, it never it the ground, it only left his hand after he hit the ground and he regained control. Three feet were in, maybe that fourth on the line. These rules are stupid.

now you can knock the ball out of the guy's hand after he already caught it in the endzone and it negates the catch they made earlier?
That's always been the case. The wr has to survive the ground and defender. It's not like a ball carrier.

AND the ground CAN cause a fumble and make it incomplete also.
The rule makes no sense.

What people are arguing is that happened AFTER he had possession with both feet in.

The ground can cause an incompletion not a fumble.
Posted on 1/22/23 at 3:17 pm to thelawnwranglers
The ground can't cause a fumble but if it causes the ball to move a count hair , even though it never hits the ground, it's incomplete.
Not

He had to survive the ground.
