I’m kind of on the fence. It doesn’t help that he played for the Reds his whole career. If he had been a Yankee or a Dodger I think he gets in.

One of my friends works with his cousin or something and told him it's well known around the league that Votto is a f*g. Didn't believe it, googled it, and rumors were dating back to 2009.

Eta: look it up

He will get in, but he’s not a HOFer for me. You can’t walk your way to the HOF.

His counting stats present a pretty poor case at 2093 hits, 342 hr, 1106 rbi, all in an offensive era.

A .297 career BA with those numbers isn’t eye popping.

His career .ops of .926 is great and built on the back of an outstanding .412 obp. He led the league in obp 7 different times, in large part by leading the league in walks 5 different teams.

But when you are the best hitter on a bad team sometimes you got to swing the bat and drive in runs. I don’t think you get to walk your way to cooperstown.

I don't think so. Here are some other guys similar that aren't in.

Will Clark- Better career avg, RBI, hits, runs, and had 1 more 30 HR season than Votto.

Todd Helton- Blows Votto away in most categories- Avg, HR, RBI, SB, hits.

He has a very similar stat line to Olerud, and I never thought, "I'm watching a HOFer when I watched them".

Todd Helton likely gets in this year or next. I don't think Votto does, but he's about as close to the line as you can get.

I think he does get in. He’s probably going to play 3 more years too.

He comps up to Larry Walker who finally got in.

Helton will get in this year or next.

Helton was also a three time Gold Glover.

I don't know that i view him as a first ballot guy. That said, he has a top 50 career ops. Better than pujols and miggy

2100 hits are good, not great, but he's not a longevity play and his BA is .297

342 HR isn't tremendous, but he's top 30 all time for 1B, so no slouch.

1106 RBI's, well that is dependent on his lineups and no good player in the last 20 years has had as many shite lineups. Here is where things get interesting. I hear this shite argument He DoEsN't SwInG wItH gUyS oN bAsE.

e.g.

Votto's career slash line with RISP is .322/.471/.569

His career slugging with RISP is 16th ALL TIME. Higher than Mantle, Musial, Mays, Griffey, Miggy, Arod and on and on.

Want to know how great a hitter is? How often is he getting walked with RISP? Here is the career top 5 all-time BB/PA with RISP.

1) Barry Bonds
2) Ted Williams
3) Babe Ruth
4) Mickey Mantle
5) Joey fricking Votto

OPS with RISP? 10th all-time.

He played on some straight-up shitty teams killing his Runs and RBI totals.

So when men are on base, he's one of the greatest hitters of all time (driving in runs)
And as far as getting on base, he's one of the greatest hitters of all time (scoring runs)

quote:

His career .ops of .926 is great and built on the back of an outstanding .412 obp. He led the league in obp 7 different times, in large part by leading the league in walks 5 different teams.

This may be the dumbest sentence ever constructed in relation to baseball stats. It's called on base PLUS slugging for a reason. On base counts.

counting stats

Votto has better OPS and Slugging and a 145 OPS+ vs Clarks 137 OPS+

slashed .287/.386/.469 on the road when not in that joke of a field called coors. Votto hit 10 more road HR's than Helton is 300 fewer PA. Next.

129 OPS+ for Olerud and 145+ for Votto. 100 more HR in less PA.
