DARPA Selects Aurora Flight Sciences for Phase 2 of Active Flow Control X-Plane

DARPA enters a new phase in creation of an aircraft with no exterior moving parts.
DARPA has selected Aurora Flight Sciences to design a full-scale X-plane that relies solely on changes in air flow for in-flight maneuvers.

DARPA has selected Aurora Flight Sciences to move into the detailed design phase of the Control of Revolutionary Aircraft with Novel Effectors (CRANE) program. This follows successful completion of the project’s Phase 1 preliminary design, which resulted in an innovative testbed aircraft that used active flow control (AFC) to generate control forces in a wind tunnel test. Phase 2 will focus on detailed design and development of flight software and controls, culminating in a critical design review of an X-plane demonstrator that can fly without traditional moving flight controls on the exterior of the wings and tail.

I just thought I would share this with those of you that are interested in this kind of stuff, like me. Reminds me of the "mythical" TR-3B.
Remember, we didn't have an F-117, (that we knew about), until we learned about it during Desert Storm.

How do you control air flow if nothing exterior can be manipulated ?

This was basically my master's thesis about 20 years ago. I'd better check for patent infringement.

I'm guessing it's got alot of tiny thrusters to maneuver it.

Or the stealth Blackhawk until the bin Laden raid. In fact we still don’t know about the stealth Blackhawk.

Dodges and Plymouths don't have posi trac. They have sure grip super track pacs and track pacs.

which is funny because it had been in service for 10 years and was based on late 60s-mid 70s tech. crazy thing is other than a handful of countries(less that 10) the nighthawk is still 2 decades more advanced than their tech
just like the F-22....most of that is 80s and very early 90s tech except for some small upgrades.

All I know is that positraction was not available on the '64 Buick Skylark.

That is what those "youts" were not driving.

By being covered in rich, Corinthian leather.

Rogan interviewed an investigative reporter recently who spent several years investigating DARPA & it's scary. Not only what's on the drawing table and what's being tested but also who is pulling the purse strings. Musk has called it THE most secretive agency in the Federal Govt. and is doing things with A.I.'s that are beyond the general public's imagination. He said Russia has its own DARPA & it's all in on A.I.'s as well.

I'd love to see a Russian AI.

You can’t beat old aerodynamics/fluid mechanics videos from the 50s. YouTube
Fast forward to 9m45s and 20m40s to parts about active flow control using slots and jets like what this X plane will probably be using. Or watch the whole thing because these videos are awesome.
