Heading to The Arches in Utah and was hoping to get some recommendations from those who have been there. I’ll be driving in from Vegas. They call it the Arches, but I’m really interested mostly in “The Arch.” Is it pretty easy to get to?

Thank you in advance.

I suppose you're talking about Delicate Arch.

Yes, it's an easy enough hike. The issue is parking. Delicate Arch rd leads to 2 Delicate Arch parking lots.

The first parking lot will fill up very fast as it is at the trail head of Delicate Arch trail.

The second parking lot also fills up fast, but not as fast. From there there's Delicate Arch lower viewpoint, and Delicate Arch upper viewpoint. These are both very easy and over nice views, but from a distance.

You can park at parking lot 2 and hike the road up to parking lot 1 and the trail head. This adds a mile of walking on the road.

There is no parking on the side of the road. These are your only 2 options outside of walking/biking many many more miles in.

Show up early.

My best experience at Arches was staying late at night. We spent that day at Canyonlands, ate dinner at the condo, and went to Arches before sunset.

Delicate arch was packed, but we caught it from the backside. IMO it’s overrated due to the crowds around it. We hung around and let the kids play, then realized the park started to empty out. We explored in twilight and it was awesome. Went to panorama point and watched the stars till 2am. Awesome night.

If you want a great arches experience with minimal effort, take a look at Navtec Expeditions - we did an off-road tour with them and helped us avoid all lines/crowds and see some really cool parts of the park.

It was pretty packed when I went but we know why.

It's a beautiful view at sunset.

I just tried to enjoy myself and block out the people. I would go again.

OP, bring a headlamp for the walk back to the lot.

Download and listen to the gypsy app while there.
For a great, unique hike, check out double o arch.
And don’t overlook park avenue. Even though it’s an easy hike, It’s one of my kids favorites of all the NPS hikes they’ve done.
My son on the way to and from “The Arch” at sunset:

Delicate Arch is a moderate hike, but pretty easy. The thing you have to be aware of is the sun and heat. Bring plenty of water, and take your time.

Check our Corona Arch as well. I don't think you need a NP pass to get to it and it was less crowded than Delicate Arch when I went. And it's a big arse arch. Mesa Arch is another option and is extremely easy to get to but it will be crowded. Mesa is in canyonlands. Arches has lots of good sites that you can see from your car too. Definitely agree with the poster above that said you should take in the stars at night

This is the view from the Delicate Arch upper viewpoint. It's not as close as it looks; I guess I zoomed in with my phone to take the picture. To get to this view point you have to climb a fairly steep hill. IIRC it is about a 1/2 mile from the 2nd parking lot.

We got to Arches before day light to watch the sum come up through Double Arches and then headed to Delicate Arch. The first lot was full and we parked in the 2nd one. We were not planning to hike to Delicate Arch so that was fine.

The are many arches just off of the main road or within a fairly short hike. I think my favorite was Sand Dune Arch; you walk through a slot canyon to see it.

My kids loved this one. Had a blast running around in the sand.

Take a day to go to Island in the Sky part of Canyonlands and Dead Horse State Park.
