Did these ~20 McCarthy holdouts get something in writing?

Multiple have switched - I hope they don't get screwed. They were using the only power they had.

Looks like about half have switched.
Gaetz is about to get railroaded.

They may get a little power with their vacate the seat plan....but they probably didn't make friends with the leadership long term.

The America First holdouts are trying to dilute the power of the speaker so the speaker isn't able to make real impactful decisions without some level of oversight.....it's a good idea.

I respect what he has done. He seems like one of the only ones with a backbone.

They negotiated. They’re getting the assurances they need and now they’re voting accordingly. I don’t think it’s anything more than that. They would’ve done this with anyone they think isn’t one of them and running for SOTH. It was never about McCarthy.

frick the GOP leadership. They’re a big reason that we’re where we are today.

Absolutely - so I hope they got there demands in writing (which honestly, I don't know what power that would even have).
The American first/ freedom caucus desires (that I have seen) are very good and appropriate.

"Assurances"? Whatever they negotiated will be reneged on after the vote. CONgress is full of lying corrupt criminals and their "word" means NOTHING.

Putting it in writing is worthless.

For some of them it was definitely about McCarthy. He lied to them before and they won't trust him.
For others, it is the swamp/ McCarthy politics.
So you don't get the results of negotiations in writing?

Gaetz went in hard on McCarthy during his nomination. Doesn’t sound like he’s even close to onboard.
But looks like 14 votes have switched.

Graves and the other LA representatives seem to be fake conservatives.
McCarthy is Paul Ryan 2.0

This is where I think Gaetz has gone sideways. Some of his comments indicated it is very much about McCarthy specifically and he makes it seem that it is personal for him and he would never vote for McCarthy regardless of any negotiated terms.
Stick to the message, stick to the list of items to negotiate and vote accordingly. Making it personal distracts from your message and gives people an easy excuse to dismiss the sound parts of your argument.

There is no such thing as "good faith" anymore in most levels of large business and government. I'm happy for this interruption to DC's little disingenuous cocktail party, but I still can't help but feeling this is more theater. I'll be interested to see how the 20 play into coming republican non-Trump presidential campaigns.

Just let your Reps know that if they vote in a swamp creature for Speaker, you won't vote for them in 2024.
My Rep continues to vote for him, so she's not even going to be considered by me for 2024.
We have a long way to go before 2024 - if they allow the leadership to ram McCarthy through, they're going to regret it.

Why, for the other Republicans, does it have to be McCarthy or no one else? If your theory is correct that it was never about McCarthy, the prove it. Have McCarthy step out of the race and take a vote on others. If the holdouts continue to vote "no" then that would presumably provide validity that it is not about McCarthy and the GOP could point to the holdouts and say "these obstructionist assholes are the problem, not us. They won't vote for anyone not in their group."
Many conservative leaning voters, myself included, distrust the GOPe only slightly less than they distrust Democrats. McCarthy seemingly being the ONLY option after 11-12 failed votes does nothing to alleviate that distrust. Are you telling me there is not one GOP member of Congress capable of being Speaking of the House than Keven McCarthy?

Yes

McCarthy already made major concessions on Wednesday night, including allowing for one member to act on the motion to vacate the chair, placing more conservative hard-liners on the House Rules Committee, promising votes on key bills, and keeping Republican political action committees out of primary races for safe GOP seats.
