Why would Nussmeier stay through Spring?

Kelly has already said that there isn't a controversy. There won't be a competition between Daniels and the others. Now, there may be a competition between Howard and Nussmeier as to who is the #2 quarterback, at least that's what I surmised when Kelly said that Nussmeier and Howard will have a chance to compete. But for all intents and purposes, Nussmeier won't really have a chance to earn the #1 spot it feels like based off of what Kelly himself said.
So, what could Nussmeier possibly gain by staying here? I don't want him to leave at all as I think he's a supremely talented kid and one who I believe has shown that he is capable of leading this offense; but in today's landscape of college football regarding quarterbacks it doesn't seem to benefit him to stay.
I believe that we have two guys that give us good odds to repeat and build off our success from this past season. And I do wonder why Kelly is so dead set on Daniels above the others, but I have no reason to not trust him, as if I could do anything about it anyway. Just wondering why Nussmeier would stay on when he's basically been told that he won't be given a real chance to become the starter this upcoming season barring injury to Daniels.

Maybe. Transfer portal is open May 1-15

Because he is aligned and wants to compete.

Howard is a distant 3rd right now.
He hasn't made a step forward like Nussmeier has. And, Nussmeier looks to have more arm talent as well.

My guess is he's been promises playing time.

Not sure he does but spring will tell us a little if he stays. If he stays through spring and into fall it means he’s seen them all over Daniel’s arse for holding onto the ball still and knows or thinks he’s going to be put into the games at some point. He believes in himself.
Daniels may be the starter but I think it’s closer than some think.

I don’t think you’re interpreting Kelly’s statement correctly
Daniels is currently the starter and will take reps with the 1’s in the spring. But that doesn’t mean Nuss can’t take his spot if he outperforms him

well pretty much no matter where he goes worth a shite he will have to win the job and will be at a disadvantage.
so why not stay, win the #2 job and take over for 2024? a lot of places he would be in the same situation.

Legit question for sure. I’d like to think he loves being a Tiger and sees himself at worst starting as a Jr and Sr. Thinking that helps me tolerate the shortsightedness of the rest of society

Idk maybe we start to see QBs stay and wait their turn. Like BAMA and Georgia continue to do. BAMA and GEORGIA gave 5 stars sitting on the bench waiting for Bryce and Stetson to leave

It would be a shite show with our fanbase if he announced it was an open competition.

Or he could transfer and ride the bench. You know he has to look at Max Johnson and see that could be his future too.

I think you are just making stuff up at this point.

Because he’ll see a ton of time next year and will be driving the corvette in 2024 maybe?

Nuss out performs jaden with arm talent and ability to throw the ball.
But the coaches like Jadens ability to run the ball and Nuss will never be a better runner.
So Jaden will start. If starting next year is important to Nuss he should transfer. If not, he should accept the back up position and he will start for one year the following year.

Because he's happy and loves LSU. Apparently, a lot more than many of the goofballs on this site.

It doesn't seem that close in Kelly's eyes based on his own statements regarding the quarterback depth chart. I hope it's close though. I don't really think that Daniels did enough this season for him to be an automatic starter regardless.

Going off of what Kelly said in his postgame presser, it's not really making something up to read it that way.

He may love LSU, but I doubt he's thrilled with the situation and with what Kelly has said.

I wouldn't be shocked if he was told that if he competed well that a 2 QB system isn't out of the question at least early in the year. Usually 2 QBs means both suck but in our case it would be because both are good and complementary to one another. And if one starts to outperform the other than you make them the permanent starter Like Michigan did with McCarthy this year.

I could see nuss staying knowing he will be the guy for 2024.
Hopefully he stays 'cause it would hurt for him to leave.
Kid has every tool you want in a qb.
And to all the people who automatically anointed howard need to take a step back. He is going to have to wait his turn.
If he wants to transfer so be it. He hasn't even beat out nuss for qb2 much less daniels.

Maybe just maybe he is ok with competing for the job and maybe being the backup for another year before taking over the starting job.
I get it it’s not the normal for modern QB’s in college but maybe he is an outlier.
