Kids and Food Allergies...

Has anyone delt with this? Since Sunday everything that my kid has eaten has caused him to break out in hives all over his body. We have taken him to the walk in clinics and they give him oral steroids, and we give him Benadryl. It helps, but we are scared as frick. It came out of nowhere. His doctor has referred us to an allergist, but no telling when they will even get him in to figure this shite out. Meanwhile we are fricked, because we don't even know what we can feed him, fearing he'll break out or even worse.

Is he on any prescription meds? Could it be a drug allergy and not a food allergy? I had an allergic reaction to penicillin once. Came out of nowhere but it gave me miserable hives.

Look at what’s in dry roasted peanuts.
It’s a ton of shite other than peanuts

no meds that he was on. And this is more than peanuts. It's anything he eats makes him break out.

Look up oral allergy syndrome. My daughter developed this seemingly out of the blue a few years ago. She’s on regular allergy meds now.

Yes. My 14 month old has an egg allergy. Ridiculous.

Wow, we are old… I remember when the OT was more concerned about the LSU annual undie run and now we are talking about kids allergies and get off my lawn stuff.
No help with allergies though; my kids started daycare at about 5 weeks and they are nearly invincible now

We did this. His advice was don't feed him eggs...no kidding.
They aren't going to do the prick testing on small kids. He'll prescribe you an epi pen and you'll get to live that hell.
I wish I had more comforting news but Allergist are about the most useless bunch out there. They can order blood tests for certain allergens

We are going the other way.
We have a kid who was allergic to everything under the sun as a baby, and has slowly over the years grown out of all of them.
It is not abnormal for a kid/adult to suddenly become allergic to something.
I would steer clear of food the usual suspects (nuts, dairy, shellfish etc) until you get the test and figure out what it is.
If it got that severe that fast, it is not something to dismiss.
I would give him small amounts of anything you are feeding him at first to rule things out, just to make sure.
Once you rule it out, put it on the safe list.
In allergy world, broccoli and ground meat are usually safe.
If it is environmental you won't be able to do much.
The skin test our daughter took was $1000 after insurance (she was 2 at the time and they tested her for everything under the sun), but it told us exactly what she was allergic to (food, environmental, chickens, roaches, dust...you name it).
Could also be some weird rash...kids get weird random ailments all the time.

Really? I genuinely had no idea. Shouldn’t it just be peanuts, salt and dry fricking heat?

My youngest is allergic to seafood, strawberries and red dye. She learned to avoid seafood and anything red. She has kind of grown out if it and even eats crawfish and crab meat.
But, for years it was just as you described. Hives, rashes, welts and a kind of tingly feeling. Nothing life threatening but, scary nonetheless.
It took a while for us to identify it. We just kind of retraced it back to the first time it happened. It was at a crawfish boil.

This is rough as hell. My son is 7 and he had terrible dairy and soy allergies when he was a baby. We had to switch to $60/cans of formula, which ended up being close to $1,000 a month on formula alone. He finally outgrew that by around age 2/3 and we thought we were in the clear. Then suddenly, out of nowhere, he started breaking out in massive hives on 100% of his body and his eye and face would swell so much that he was unrecognizable. We tried elimination diets with no luck. We’ve taken him to Children’s Hospital ER probably five to seven times, had two endoscopy procedures to rule out celiac disease, countless appointments with the allergist, a few epi pen uses, and three allergy tests all over the past two years. Turned out to be a massive NSAID allergy and not foods at all. He’s a rambunctious little fart and is always getting stitches or breaking bones so we’d give him children’s Advil on a regular basis when things would happen and we just assumed it was an allergy to food that he was eating but it turned out to be Advil all along.
Sincerely, good luck. This is a bitch to figure out and it hurts like hell to know you have tried everything and still can’t figure out what’s hurting your child.
Edit: if you are in the Baton Rouge area, we use Dr. Adrianne Edmundson as his allergist/immunologist. I highly recommend her because she’s very knowledgeable, takes her time, and genuinely shows an interest in helping. Plus she’s very easy on the eyes. But seriously, she’s a fantastic doctor and is great with kids. I can’t recommend her enough.

Post viral rash is a thing. OP could be overreacting if his kid was just getting over a sickness.
Kids bodies react differently

Kracka did y’all change soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, lotion, wipes, anything at all??
Also I’d think back to what he ate over the weekend .. allergist may very well ask.

My oldest would get really puffy eyes and lips during meal time. There were a few episodes of vomiting. We could never pinpoint what it was until he ate a bunch of eggs and then again when he had peanut butter toast. The latter was a much more intense reaction.
He was formally tested, and he obviously improved with avoidance. Thankfully, he grew out of the egg allergy. Also, he's never been noticeably sensitive to foods that "may have been processed on equipment" with his known allergens.![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcheers.gif)

Has she been sick recently? I’m currently dealing with mast cell activation (body producing too much histamine when it shouldn’t) post-COVID. My allergist said it’s not uncommon to be seen in babies and toddlers after RSV either.

Right now all eggs or egg products are a no-go. We have to clear everything from having egg protein.
They think he will grown out of it. Been a few months since we have given him egg.
We go to allergist in March where we'll do a monitored thing. We went did a test for egg allergen and it popped positive.
My kid is being deprived of my love for baked goods like donuts.
