Spending the next 4 days in Paris and plan to kinda “wing it” on most of our eats but wanted some really good French cuisine one night. Not looking for overly pricey or a coat and tie kinda spot. Just really good authentic food. Any places that might fit the bill that y’all like ? TIA

Jesus Christ why. Terrible idea.

Paris

Upscale:
Septime
Le Chateaubriand
Frenchie (multiple places)
Le Servan
Comice
Granite
David Toutain

Upscale Casual/Bistro:
Chez L’ami Jean
Juveniles
Clamato
La Bourse et La Vie
Bistrot Flaubert
Clown Bar
Paul Bert

A little more casual:
L’avant Comptoir
Huiterie Regis
Mokonuts
Aux Bon Crus
Breizh Cafe
L’as Du falafel
Marche des enfants rouge

Clamato doesn’t accept ressies so that’s a great one. Same Chef as Septime. Not sure if Juveniles does or not. Some of the more casual Frenchie spots like Frenchie Pigalle or Frenchie to go may be easier to get into. A lot of the casual ones are no ressies.

Aux Bon Crus will 100% be a place up your alley.

We had a great time at Le Marmiton de Lutece.

A small quaint joint doing raclette and fondue. Solid and actually affordable wine list and the staff was great.

Why cant he wing it? Not everyone wants a detailed plan of each meal.

Would like one meal that has a view of Eiffel Tower . Not really a biggie though on any specific location for another meal. We are staying in the 7th not far from Eiffel Tower on Rue de Grenelle @ letour de Maubourg

Thanks for the replies so far. Currently on the Eurostar coming from London. Will provide a trip review once we finish up in Paris. It’s been a blast so far although we got off to a rough start with the flights.

You can wing it. Of course you can. You can also be severely disappointed as you walk from small bistro to small bistro and are repeatedly told they are full that evening. Eventually you’ll give in and go to a tourist trap and have a substandard meal at a high price. And when that happens you’ll wish you had just made a free reservation. It’s paris one of the greatest restaurant cities in the world, make a reservation (if you can).

Of course there are many places as mentioned above that don’t take reservations so that is always a good play.

Because you often times end up with shite, especially in tourist cities like Paris.

I've done it and its always been mixed results at best.

I personally like to have at least some sort of plan for most of the meals, with some flexibility built in

Les Résistants Was a great little place. Menu changes based on what they can get from the markets that morning. Owner was super friendly and food was amazing!

Wife and I "winged" it a few weeks ago and had a fantastic trip. Did make dinner reservations, but usually the morning of while understanding most upscale restaurants wouldn't be possible. Spent most of our time walking and stumbled into a number of cocktail and wine bars, cafes, etc.

We did Les Résistants, too. Was fantastic. Went to CopperBay afterwards for cocktails.

In the 7th

One of my favorite Restaurant Rows in Paris is rue St. Dominique on the blocks near the Eiffel Tower. There are dozens of excellent restaurants on that street or within a few blocks of it. . Here are a few of my favorites -

Le Violon de Ingres
Les Fables de la Fontaine
La Fontaine de Mars
Au Bon Accueil
Chez J'Ami Jean
Josephine Chez Dummonet

You had dinner reservations so you didn't wing it. I understand making a few reservations, and then letting the other stuff shake out.

This guy doesn't have any reservations at all, which can be tough in Paris. A lot of places require them.

To each his own. Sometimes you get too busy to make ressies, or you get overwhelmed. I get it.

Having none at all will require some planning at this point to eat at decent places

We ended up going to Le Petit Cler on Rue Cler. We walked in and we’re seated right away. Food was really good and reasonable. Mrs jkyle got escargot with beef bourguignon pasta. I had foie Gras and beef tartare with a baked potato. Really just had a few items I wanted to check off the list as far as trying so was able to accomplish that and enjoyed the food/atmosphere very much. Will look into some reservations for later in the week but I see same/next day reservation options on several of the places mentioned in the thread by previous posters so I don’t think all is lost. Thanks again for the replies.

Any of the Bouillon restaurants.
Look it up. Bouillon Republique is one near where I'm staying next but there are five. It's a local chain. But popular among French. Has all the French classics but with good prices.
