There have been some great ones, Kentucky Headhunters, Confederate Railroad, Shenandoah... it's a big list, but I think Diamond Rio was the best.. great songs great guitar work. This is one of my favorites of theirs.

I should probably say : country bands that just played under a single name, and nobody's name up front. Not like BLUE AND THE YAHOOS.
This was a great song IMO. Never knew what to think about the video..

Edit to say : This thread is turning out pretty well, I'm getting reminded about a lot of good music that I haven't thought about in a while.
Might have to spend a couple of days re-listening instead of playing.

You are probably really right, But I always classify them as more Southern Rock.

Alabama is definitely on the list for consideration.

Rio’s Jimmy Olander is a helluva guitar player keeping the twang alive.

Currently, I gotta go with the Fabulous Superlatives. Everything they do is in my wheelhouse. Great band.

He really is.
Edit to add: He's got that 1 whightish telly ( might be an Esquire) that has that B-bender on it, plus a G-bender. Damn thing's great. Might be the one with Mother Maybelle on the pickguard...?

That's the one.

However I'd opt to consider all of the various lineups if considering as possible best. That was some considerable talent from beginning to end.

The Byrds were a great band, but I would not call them a great country band
