I could buy this. Knew a guy that worked on f35. Maybe for civil aviation, but for government stuff, you can't just join a team and design the airframe. Supercomputers do all that. You're basically a mechanical engineer, designing the structural components. You might spend 10 years working on landing gear, kinda cool, but it's not top gun stuff.

I'm an aerospace engineer. One of my classmates in college did just what you are thinking about. He was a few years older than the rest of us but he was more focused and didn't fool around going to bars and parties. After graduation he ended up going to Navy flight school...he just barely made the age cutoff.

I'd say go for it if you're really interested in those fields. It's not too late.

It’s all just numbers really, just changing what you’re adding up…

I'm drunk off my arse but is Astrospace even a real word? Regardless, I bet with 6 months of astrospace training, I could fire up the Enola Gay and be over Tokyo by noon tomorrow noon.

That said, frick the haters, if you want to be an Astrospace Engineer, you got this!

Albert Einstein was a Swiss patent clerk for 7 years, before he ever set foot in the University of Bern. Swing away, you glorious Silverbacked MF’er, swing away.

I am currently an accountant working in public accounting and I am miserable. I was curious if anyone here works in either field by chance and could provide some input. Considering changing careers. Thanks.

I mean if paramedics can pretend to be doctors, surely you can do this!

You’d be surprised. I’m pretty much the only non-engineer in my family, and they’re all on TD (which is why I try so carefully not to dox myself). Many different engineering disciplines in my family; petroleum, civil, electrical, mechanical, biomechanical, and yes, even aerospace.

They’d probably tell you to research the average starting wage and what percentage of jobs go to H1B’s that drive wages down before you make your decision.

ould be nice to be a professor. I just don’t enjoy accounting in any way. I do like finance though (the markets, debt and equity securities, etc.)

you should do a top 25 mba instead. Can get it done in 2 years and will give you much better career prospects than engineering. Just don’t do an online program.

When I was in elementary school I wanted to be an astronaut.
During the time of Apollo most astronauts were either test pilots with wartime experience.
So I got into Air Force ROTC at LSU and quickly found out there was like a hundred other baws with the same idea all trying to get 2 available slots to be a pilot. And this was any kind of pilot, from fighter jet to B52 pilot .
So I went across the hall and became an engineer for the Army.
Also I liked physics so I took twice the number of hours that was required for civil engineers. Once you get past the required classes it becomes a completely different world. Some of these physics prof truly live in the 12th dimension. Had some friends who majored in physics , one is a manager for Fedex, another works for a pump company in Houston.
If you want to be an aerospace engineer make sure you really like algebra and calculus.

Astrospace engineer?

I'm old. Never heard of that one. Can you point me to an accredited university with a curriculum for that degree?

Man, you are way out of your league, no offense. It's like you played a church league softball game and want to try out for the Braves. Keep your day job and chase the stars as a hobby.
