When you think about it.

Young was on another level from 1994 to 1997...

Niners would have beaten the '97 Broncos as well in that SB.

Yes, the 90s 49ers

Remember, they were in the NFC championship every other year....only time did not make the NFC title game was in 1991, 1998 and 1999.

Steve Young is one of the smartest QBs ever.

I thought about it and nope. No one was beating that ‘96 Packer team. The 49ers were soundly beaten in the divisional round by the Packers the year before. The closest SF got in that game was when they were ten points down and recovered an onside kick with around 4 minutes left.

If Irvin and the Cowboys weren't distracted, they would beaten them.

Young could have played to 2005, that's how good he was.

That '97 NFC championship was good, was a defensive slugfest.

As a big Jerry Rice/49ers fan in the 90s, freak Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers for knocking us out of the playoffs in 95,96, and 97.

Shame concussions forced him out. They had a quarter back competition years back. Even though he had been out of the league for years, he blew them all away.

Exactly what this is, only team that deserved to go that didn't in the 90s were the 98 Vikings (Dennis Green and prevent defense) and 99 Packers (Jerry Rice fumbled.)

I remember a young interview where he compared law school and being a lawyer to quarterback. I tried to find it on YouTube but couldn’t.

Anyway, he talked about how hard it was to be an nfl quarterback v. being a lawyer. No comparison.

He said quarterback was so much more difficult. He talked about how a good quarterback needed something like instinctual knowledge. In other words, knowing what to do instantaneously.

I wish I could find it.

What Young was talking about is applicable to many other professions.

Steve Young was not only a great quarterback, he was also a very smart man. For someone that’s not too impressed by many, Steve Young impressed me after seeing that interview.

If anyone remembers or can post it, I’d appreciate it. I would love to see it again.

Favre gets too much credit for those years. He won MVPs, threw a bunch of touchdowns, blah blah blah. The Packer defense in that span was legit and unfortunately gets overshadowed by Favre. Without that defense and in ‘96 the top ranked kickoff and punt return team it’s unlikely that Favre wins a Super Bowl.

Niners had an aging defense. Young did all he could to carry them but the roster top to bottom had issues.

Favre won all of those MVPs for a reason and many people seem to have forgotten how good he really was during those amazing years when he had Holmgren as his coach. It is a damn shame that the Packers forced him out of Green Bay since Favre has stated multiple times that they would have won a couple more had he stayed on as HC and GM only for the Packers to give those exact duties to Mike Sherman only a couple years later.
