NIL “Contracts” should include playing in bowl games.

These kids want professional money then they need to be signed to professional contracts. Either they forfeit NIL money if they don’t play or they get a smallar amount up front with added incentives for bowl games and performance milestones. This opting out stuff is BS

How do you prevent "tweeked" ankles/hamstrings etc. as an excuse to miss the game? Pretty easy to claim an injury to avoid a game.

Also if guys want to play in the NFL how do you tell them but you need to play in this meaningless game and chance getting an injury...LSU uses players making the NFL as a recruiting tool.

One of the very few rules regarding NIL is that it cannot be tied to where a player plays or his participation in games.

In theory, it makes sense, problem is outside of the CFP, the bowls have terrible viewership.
Now when the CFP expands, and more bowls hit more eyes, then it could absolutely make sense to get your NIL player out front of the audience.

A lot of truth to this. It has become a big aspect of our value proposition. Heck, we’re going up against a good team but without their starting QB and no1 receiver in the country.

You are in a dreamworld.

The issue isn’t that people don’t recognize that it’s bad for the sport when players quit…it’s that they have supported a system that ensured it would happen.

Or you could just accept reality and think of the bowls as a great way for younger unproven players to get playing time going into the next season.

These bowl games are pretty meaningless now. Outside of NY 6 games I don't think many people even care...other than the fanbases of those teams

That's pay for play. Probably the #1 rule when it comes to NIL is it can't be pay for play. Also let's say a bowl game is worth $10,000, no players is risking injury that money when they are about to make millions in the NFL.

Boooooooooooooooooooooooooo. The risk of playing in a meaningless game far outweighs the little NIL money. These are guys careers we are b******* about. They gave their all for us in these past few years. It happens every year, people get hurt in the championship and bowl season. Badly hurt. It impacts their money. It literally impacts our mood for what, 2.5hrs, when we could easily change the channel if we don't want to watch.

Left to the free market, things would work themselves out. People “donating” to NIL would start opting out themselves after they pony up money and their guys opt out or worse, transfer.
But I’m convinced this whole thing is corrupt, so not sure where it will head.

I've heard most NIL deals are for x amount of months (likely semester by semester). I'd imagine they have roll overs that can be stopped probably at any time after the initial contract. January being a new semester so Id imagine their contracts are either being rolled over or cancelled if a guy opts out of bowl so he's likely not being paid NIL money anymore anyhow.

I would imagine that since a few kids each year have been such blatant whores, we should assume these NIL deals are probably very very specific related to production, snaps played, and other metrics to ensure some return on investment. Incentive laden would be the phrase.

NIL is not pay for play. At least not in theory.

Yeah right. I guess it’s play to attend?!? Pay to recruit? Pay to sign? Gimme a break.

That’s why you have professional team doctors. If they gove you an all clear to play, your a** is playing.

This is so stupid. 1, I think you greatly overestimate how many players get ANY NIL at all, but certainly how much all but a handful of players are getting. 2, what you are suggesting is literally illegal. 3, even if it wasn’t illegal, NIL would be used to entice kids to go to your school over another. How quickly would they choose the schools without the ridiculous “bowl clause” attached over the ones that do? “So, if I play 3 or 4 years at LSU, but decide to sit out the Citrus Bowl my final season to not risk injury and get ready for the NFL, I’ll be liable to pay back my NIL money, but if I go to A&M I won’t? ‘Gig em!’”

Are you imbeciles incapable of thinking just 1 move ahead? Jesus Christ, these bowl games are for the players, not you, you selfish cocksuckers. Sure, it sucks we won’t get to see BJ Ojulari play in the purple and gold one last time. Or Roy. Or whoever. But we still get to see LSU play another game, despite who’s under the gold helmets. And have you seen who’s not playing for Purdue?

You’re right but missing my point. You can’t yank NIL as a penalty for skipping a bowl game.

You can stipulate the terms of the contract up front to protect yourself
