re: Hey Leathernecks, what are your thoughts on the Corps getting rid of "Yes Sir"?

On the other hand, I have seen some female Marines. Gender-neutral references may keep some poor recruit out of hot water for accidentally using "sir" for a female drill instructor.
And I’ve been yelled at for not seeing a diamond, cross rifles or a star on chevrons. It’s the military, nobody promised anyone anything. Nobody is calling ma’am’s Sir either. This is some dickface injecting gender neutrality into the military, which is political and the military is apolitical.

I called a female army officer sir on my last deployment. In my defense, she looked just like Jay-Z.

He would blow a gasket over this shite.

Was she in your direct chain that you knew and did opposite or in passing as the chevron example I gave? Also accidents happen and yeah some chicks look like dudes. Drill instructors and recruits is a even worse example that’s being used here

“The Army, Navy, and Coast Guard effectively de-emphasize gender in an integrated environment,” the report states. “Instead of saying ‘ma’am’ or ‘sir,’ recruits in these Services refer to their drill instructors using their ranks or roles followed by their last names.
What if it's a new recruit led by a corporal named Bob Punishment.

It was a joke, at the expense of female DIs.
Poor taste. I actually had a female DI (TSgt Presto).
She was terrific

I was never a big fan of having USMC recruits address their DI as sir or ma'am as their DI's are not commissioned officers...
I will have a bigger problem if they start telling their enlisted folks to drop the sir or ma'am when addressing their officers though.

the words Air Force and "drill" should never even be in the same sentence

Are the branches letting women have ponytails now? I'm seeing pictures of that out there.

Pedo strikes again. What a stupid take

We actually called them "TIs," ("training instructors", and we were "trainees.") not "DIs." Just using the terminology.
All the folks who'd had A&M Corps experience laughed at them acting tough (myself included, I'll confess )

yeah. while i'm agaisnt this idea just because i know that it's only being done for social justice reasons, it DOES more accurately reflect how Marines interact with eachother in the real world. this is also how it is done at OCS - all the DIs there are just called by their rank and name.

Yes. And messy arse buns.
Pisses my wife and mom (both veterans) off to no end

pretty much. USMC started allowing "half" pony tails last month, but everyone knows it's just a cynical boiling frog maneuver and that they will be allowing full pony tails really soon.

Next encounter, push the alphabet squad to the front of the line and rid our armed services of this debacle.

It’s because they’re not a Marine and don’t address them by rank. It’s also easier because rank is hard to see on a collar. It’s done for an immediate response to a question and aye is used during a command.
It’s always been done, so why change it?

Pretty cool.
Were they generally able to be stationed the same place or did they spend a lot of time apart?
