What would happen if a state declared independence?

What would be the chain of events be to follow? Let's say a state like Texas or Florida simply said they would no longer be recognizing the federal government as legitimate, and will be doing their own thing going forward.

The poors would be pissed on the 1st of the month

Welfare recipients and illegal aliens would flock to the nearest state's border first.

A state can’t declare independence; a referendum and vote of the people must occur.
And yes … once Texas and the U.S. divorce, the floodgates will open.

The reality is that all the institutions of the country would act to take pressure off FedGov.
The goal would be to weaken the consensus/resolve of the state's population and have the movement crumble from within.

Like send a town crier to DC with a mega phone and yell?

Who says they can't? If they declare independence, they declare independence.

Won’t happen.
I still don't understand why the blue state narcists insist on keeping the red state welfare rednecks tied to them?
I mean blue states pay more into the feds and red states take more.
Would seem natural to let the red states go. Good riddance huh??

I think they very well could isolate one state. Then what happens when a couple more do it. Now they are playing whack a mole.
Then said state scoops up all illegals and welfare recipients and dumps them in some blue state. Suddenly said state's resolve strengthens quite a bit.

will be doing their own thing going forward.
Immediately remove any federal property there, close all federal facilities;
Immediately withhold every federal dollar. Military retirement, Social Security, disability, if its federal money it stops that day.
Send in the military.

I’m a red guy in a blue state. You’re not wrong, if Texas was serious they’d done it by now. They’re subsidized heavily and the consequences would outweigh the benefits.
They lose all protection from fed gov
They lose everything that’s subsidized
They couldn’t afford veterans healthcare and benefits
They couldn’t afford their own military
They don’t have anything of value for long term sustainability
They are overran right now doing nothing
They would be in the middle of balls and butthole
It will never happen and those are just a few things I can think of. And I’m far from a genius

Texas and Florida swim in federal dollars. They arent going anywhere.

I’m guessing many states would have series fiscal issues, especially amongst the poor.
Google tells me almost a third of Texas budget is federal funding.

The fact that Texas has turned more purple than the state of Illinois tells me Texans don’t really have a say what is going on. Can they leave, sure, I don’t think they’d be successful. They’d be more like to be gotten kicked off the big tit.

The Courts might litigate the legal question that should have been litigated in 1860, had South Carolina not fired on Fort Sumter.

They’d be called racist and that would end it all.

Pretty sure this is inaccurate. The Texas constitution allows for this. This is based on an interview I heard from a TEXIT official.

Absolutely.

People who’ve paid into systems move out of country and collect their SS/retirement every day.

To harm millions of people who voted in a democratically held election?
The U.S. has spent decades defending states’ sovereignty across the globe (see Ukraine).
A military attack against people exercising their right to self-determination would paint U.S. in a very despotic light and further make the case for states exiting the union.
