That's what caused the turbulence which hurt a bunch of people on a flight coming out of (I think) Hawaii.

About 13000 feet judging by the melting layer on CC around Shreveport. Big melting line from 5400 feet to 13000 feet which line up with this big warm nose on HRRR soundings.

FIL was stationed in Fairbanks in the late 50s after graduating from the Naval Academy. Keep in mind, he was a NOLA boy and did go through some cold Annapolis winters, but nothing like that. He said that he put a train battery that weighed 200 lbs in his trunk for about 9 months of the year up there. Car always started, even on the coldest nights. He also said once it hit -40 F, the road was like driving on pavement.

Just a bit of perspective for most of us from LA.

Anyone think they will be closing bridges in BR on Friday during this weather or would that only be if we had precipitation?
