13 year contract for a brittle 28 year old? Good for him I guess.

MLB GM’s have lost their minds
I was glad the Astros didn’t go 6 or 7, these fools go double that. This feels like LSU bidding against itself in recent years on assistant coaches

Boras does it again and milks out a contract for another one of his players. The front office in San Fran is crazy imo to offer 13/350 for a man who is 28. Next time Correa is a free agent he'll be 41

Worse than the Trea Turner deal

Crazy deal, but I hope Correa goes nuts in SF, especially when they play the Dodgers. Dodgers fans wanted to be all high and mighty and not sign Correa because he was on the 2017 Astros roster.
Well now they get to see him 19 times a year for the next 13 years.

Actually, just 13 times a year. Baseball reduced the number of intradivision games starting in 2023 to accommodate every team playing every other team every year.

No
Balanced schedule.

Ah, didn't know they changed it. Still, that's 169 potential games over the life of that contract.
I know he has injury issues, but damn it I hope he stays healthy enough to be a thorn in the side of LA. It would just be too damn funny to watch Dodgers fans pull their hair out while this guy torments them for the next 13 years.

what a ridiculous comparison. You realize multiple teams have been doing this? The length is apparently to avoid the luxury tax by spreading out the years.
You can slice it up however you want. They’re paying $350 million and 13 years to an often hurt shortstop that has never performed to his potential. You wanna call it a 10 year deal, even better, you just paid that same player $35 million a year for 10 years. It’s all the same.

Something will be done about this luxury tax manipulation with the years at some point. No chance all these shortstops are playing into their 40s. It’s essentially deferred money with a stipulation that if these guys are somehow still fit into their 40s that they can only play for them. I bet all 3 of these shortstops will be DFA’d before their last couple seasons. These teams are just sacrificing 20M+ of dead money in these last 2-3 years of these deals when the thresholds will be higher to save $10M a year for the first 10 years. Very interesting strategy but can’t see MLB sitting by and letting this go on next offseason.
Somebody will give Ohtani half a billion and only be paying $30M a year against the tax if this is allowed to continue

These long contracts aren’t any different from deferred contracts. The Nationals paid Max Scherzer $15 million for 14 years. It was just framed as a 7 year, $210 million contract even though the contract terms were very different. It’s a better deal for the team than the 10 year, $325 million deal Corey Seager got from the Rangers and certainly the 10 year, $341 million deal Lindor got from the Mets.

Yep, they are doing it to themselves setting the market at this ridiculous standard and they and the rest of baseball will pay for it.
Yes many owners have, they have them money to spend and as the Padres owner says, you can't take it with you. But Geez.
Cub fans are going to rebel if they don't get Swanson. Cubs convention in January could get real ugly if Ricketts and Jed Hoyer show up without one of those four SS's in tow. But I don't blame them for not doing the 11-13 year deals...they will still get blasted anyway.
The narrative will be and already is, they should signed one early and set the market, as if other teams would not have counter-offered anyway.

In 3 or 4 years he'll be the full time DH. His back isn't gonna hold up to justify that contract. Baseball free agency has gone full retard.

They will be DH or 1B by the second half of these deals.

I think you're forgetting what should be the main gripe.
He just isn't that good to warrant the contract.
Ohtani gonna break records. $700M?
