Curious what they are like as pets, not getting one, just always been curious about them.

I had a customer who had them. Everyone called him the wolf man. Those dogs didn't look like they had ANY dog in them, they looked 100% wolf but I couldn't tell the difference between the behavior of them and any other big dog. Of course I didn't live with them to know their true character so they might be completely different living with them.

I've been around a few, they were fairly anti social. Once in a while you'd get a good one.

Friend had one forever. Thing was huge. Roamed like crazy. Would regularly stay gone for several weeks at a time, then would show back up after he had traveled hundreds of miles. When he was around he would ride in the truck, go in to bars, and lay on the floor. Real gentle and friendly. One day he roamed and never reappeared. RIP in peace Shy Boy...

Theres Loki the Wolfdog on instagram. He's instafamous.
I don't know much about them but I suspect they can be very restless and destructive. If you had a farm or something it might be a cool pet though.

Good friend of mine has one. Super playful if it likes you. One time it played with a goat to death. Like it just kept running into it over and over again and chasing it until it died of exhaustion

I've always heard the process is full commitment. Feed them raw meats. Let them live outside. Interact with them every day. Must be their alpha (no fking thanks going thru that particular routine if you ask me).
They're amazing, and I think it could definitely be done properly, but it would require a lot from the owner.

I've had a half livestock Guardian dog half gray wolf.
In a lot of ways they're just like dogs, but with mine there was always a hint of just wolf.
The weirdest thing he would do was he showed affection by putting his nose maybe an eighth of an inch away from yours and just sniffing you really really quickly so your would feel the air moving. But he wouldn't lick you.
He was 160 lb or so and could move on a tile floor completely silently. So you would be sitting in a recliner watching TV and then all of a sudden look to your right and his face would be 3in from yours.
Once he hit five or six he was no longer willing to tolerate any dogs over about 30 or 40 lb.

Pit bull vs a real wolf. Who you got?
Seems that a single wolf would evade a pit in natural scenario. But if cornered one on one, I don’t know.

Years ago, thought I had to have one.
Spent a not insignificant amount of money for one, small one. Took it home.
Sitting in the floor in my office doing something. It comes over and jumps on me. What I had read told me to be firm with it. So, I push it off.
Comes back and jumps on me. Push it off again.
Comes back and jumps on me. Push it off again.
Damn thing growled at me like it was grown. No way was I sleeping with that thing in the house, lest I wake up with my throat cut from ear to ear.

No, but I have a beagle that sometimes thinks he is a wolf dog.

My idiot BIL had one for about three months. You have to be assertive and dominant or the dog will take over which is what happened to him. I’m not an expert, but his dog always seemed to display more wolf traits than domesticated dog traits. She liked to be pet and would play some, but for the most part, she just wanted to roam.

Google Blue Bay Shepards. Great breed from down in Florida. I have seen several but never owned one. Not Cheap.

When I was stationed in Alaska I may have had one; it was German Shepard mix but I'm not 100% sure if it was a wolf or husky and neither did the dog pound. Was like any other big breed guard type dog.

Client of mine has a female wolf. Got it as a pup from a breeder, I think in the Anacoco area.
It's now 13 years old, 160 lbs.
One day his wife was walking it while he walked their Golden behind her. They got "jumped" by a dog of peace.
Big mistake by the dog of peace, but it lived to tell about it.

A friend of mine had a dog that was 1/4 or 1/2 wolf in college. It cornered his roommates girlfriend on the kitchen table one time.
They weren’t roommates after that.
But she was a bitch.
So I was kinda like, “Aight, dog.”

Had a buddy with one that was like 80-90% wolf and the rest was German Shepard. Bought in a real sketchy manor. It was a lot like a poorly trained dog, except it nipped and bit a lot anytime you played with it.
Then he bought a second one from the same person and they just howled all the time. The second one was super skidish to the point I don’t think I ever pet it.

Was excited to read 4 pages of cool stories about wolf dogs as pets. Instead I got a 4 page argument about a fictional animal fight. Sweet.
