Then you should be charged with murder for being a dumbass.

Are you just too stupid to realize an axe is a deadly weapon, or are we all just supposed to pretend along with you?

It says they got another call at that time.

Didn't give him a chance. POS cop (looked way outside axe throwing distance) should have explained the situation before shooting. A man in his land should be respected, not shot for expecting to be left alone.

Nothing good happens when 2 complete idiots meet up like this. This could have been avoided had 1 of the 2 idiots just thought for a split second.

That was straight murder. Absolutely zero justification. Life in prison.

Yeah man you should go try it. It's pretty simple. Little old ladies hitting bullseyes and stuff. I wouldn't assume anyone is incapable of it.

Not disagreeing with you but I would like a little context for what brought them there and the actual distances involved. Those body cams use a real wide angle lens and the distances are all wonky on that view. BUT!!!! Before everyone freaks out on me, in this case the officer chose the distance and the other guy wasn't moving towards him. So it's not as much an issue. The camera thing comes more into play with cases where the dude is charging the cop and people say "he was ways off" when in fact it was just a few feet.

Dude was a repeat violent criminal, who was terrorizing his neighbors.

Here's the part of the news4jax story they left out, conveniently.
quote:

According to Waters, Mahan had prior arrests, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, a drug arrest, a felony traffic arrest and a robbery arrest. Records show in 2013, Mahan was sentenced to three years in prison after he was convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm. In 1998, Mahan was convicted on two counts of armed robbery and one count of attempted armed robbery.

Court records also show that back in December 2021, an officer was used a Taser on Mahan while trying to arrest him. The arrest came after a driver told police that Mahan tried to carjack him and verbally threatened to kill him at a Gate gas station on 103rd Street. Mahan pleaded no contest to resisting arrest and was sentenced to 30 days in jail.

I absolutely get so mad when I watch these videos. Instead of demanding he should be brought up on charges, the cops/DAs/ect will circle the wagons and protect these guys.

No matter what the issue that was occurring and even with the red shirt guy saying no to putting the ax down, the deputy had distance as a option, continued talking, eating for back up, multiple stuff.

I will say that even if I’m not doing anything wrong and I’m just cutting up firewood in my back yard and they come through the gate and with guns drawn, tell me to drop the ax, I’m gonna do it. I’m just not pushing the issue while holding an ax with a gun pointed at me.

Mostly this

Cop is at some risk of criminal charges.

Dummy with an axe should have obeyed orders. Not because he did anything wrong or deserved to be shot dead. Purely because of self interest

Waters said police were first sent to a residence on Morse Avenue just before 4 a.m. in response to a call “regarding a mentally ill individual.” He said officers came out but were not able to locate the man. After leaving the scene, they came back around 11:30 a.m. following another call from neighbors.

“This time, the neighbors were saying that he was vandalizing their houses in the area,” Waters said.

So you can shoot a mentally ill individual (their words, not mine). I wear headphones when doing Yardwork at times. It’s honestly scary, the fact that this will be deemed justified. A bullet in the head seems overboard.

Can't say for sure of course but he seemed satisfied with himself when he called it in.

Why didn't he just stay back 50-70ft and give orders from there? If axeman came closer then use your bullet.
