Not sold on Deion as a coach. I think he needs to prove himself in a mid major ffirst.
How many SWAC coaches have made the transition to big time college football?

A directional school in Florida would have been a better stepping stone job, imho. Colorado is where coaches go to die.
I'm not very optimistic about Deion's P5 coaching future. Hiring the "recruiter" never works. I really can't think of a true example of where it has ever worked.
For some reason college administrators are obsessed with hiring recruiters and interim coaches, and sometimes those are the same person.
However, Deion CAN work. But he needs the right situation and support environment. He needs alignment across all levels, deep pocket NIL money and an easy academic situation for portal transfers. Colorado meets none of that criteria.
Just a horrible decision, if true. He will be fired in three years.
If his ego could have tolerated it, USF is a much better opportunity in the current college environment. There are tons of opportunities to recruit "bounce back" Florida kids in the portal, the AAC is easy as shite now so he has conference title and playoff opportunities and the pay is likely very similar.
He's also a much bigger name in the south, especially Florida.
Colorado is a career killer school, that is not made to compete in the current world.

There's certainly never been a SWAC head coach get a job at the P5 level. I can't find evidence of a SWAC head coach ever getting a job at the FBS level period.
May have happened, but I can't find it.

I don't see a source for this. But, if Deion goes to Colorado he has assurances that he will have full control, facility upgrades, and a major recruiting and staff budget. I don't know why you think Prime would take from Colorado what some those other coaches took. This is Prime baby!

This is actually the worst news for Colorado, and Deion.
He needs to be the face of the program and a recruiter. He's a horrible administrator and rule follower. No one gives a shite in the SWAC, but the Pac 12 and NCAA will care, as well as Colorado. He doesn't need to get "full control" of anything.
He needs a veteran "assistant head coach" that will actually be running things and he needs to just compile talent. Not sold that it will work, but that's the only path.

Good find. Forgot about him.
He also had a long track record outside of the SWAC. Most SWAC coaches seem to only coach in the SWAC, so it's very incestuous.

Who is to say he won't have a veteran assistant head coach? I've heard Mike Leach helped him find assistants at Jackson State. I'm sure Deion will get help where it's needed. Look Deion may be self-centered but I don't think he's foolish. I think Deion is more self-aware than many people think he is. And, Deion wouldn't have become the celebrity he is without being willing to listen.
One of the main things I hear Deion wants is to take care of his staff financially which Jackson State can't do.

He may. It's the "full control" comment that concerns me.
Look into the Prime Prep fiasco and see what happens when Deion has "full control"
It's pretty difficult to get the FBI and the Federal School Lunch program both investigating you.

Terrible dead end job.
CU does not support athletics.
Neither does Jackson State. Thats why deion is a good hire. He'll bring national interest(commercials, etc) to the program. he will bring support with him.

I'm no social justice warrior, but Sanders at JSU was elevating HBCU football, and that was his recruiting pitch.
He quickly overwhelmed the talent pool of the SWAC.
That approach is not going to work at a P5 school. His celebrity status will bring in a few recruits, but there is a big difference between beating no-star recruits with three and four-star players and competing straight up with teams of rosters full of four-stars.
He's going actually have to prove he can coach.

Doubtful. He played up the HBCU angle and got a lot of attention that way. He doesn't have that at Colorado.
He'll be a novelty for a short period, then no one will care.

If the financial commitment including NIL is there, Deion will do well. Boulder is beautiful and a lot of recruits haven't been there. If Deion can get them to visit campus along with a healthy NIL package he can make some moves. If Deion gets Colorado to 7-9 wins that would be a success.

Colorado is very much a parallel program to Nebraska (with less success). They used the NU Osborne model and found success that way in the 80s / 90s. They do have a little bit better local recruiting base, but it will be tough. Deion will have success getting kids there and making it a ‘cool’ place to go, assuming he has money and admin support. Can he win and sustain us the question.
I always thought Deion was the best play for NU (I never thought they would get Rhule). Colorado hit a home run with this hire, as far as potential for the state of their program. Let’s see if it pans out.

Deion won't get a large recruiting budget or a large budget for his staff (which will mean he can't hire recruiters).
There’s no way he takes this job without written contractual language saying they will invest in the product.

It humorous the way you hate Deion so much that you can’t give the guy credit for the job hes done at JSU. You’ve done nothing but discredit him the last few days since his name has come up.
Why can’t he play the “Colorado has won a National Championship here and it’s been proven it can be done.” or something to that nature?
Again, if this is true, I’m sure he is smart enough to ask these type of questions about the admin putting their fair share into the product.
