Helena Moreno's heinous socialism: N.O. Council pushing plan to wipe out unpaid med bills

Following on the heels of New Orleans' universal-basic-income handout for youths and a millage hike to fund early-childhood education programs -- and no doubt inspired by President Brandon's student-debt-relief midterms bribe -- its City Council under mayoral aspirant Helena Moreno is pushing plan "that will help some people with long-time medical bills they can't pay, and it will help hospitals and doctors with that debt on their books," WWL-TV reports.
"Thursday, the council will take up using a small part of the federal funds from the American Rescue Plan Act to pay off some of the debt that Orleans Parish patients owe to hospitals and doctors' clinics."
Moreno: "I think it;s a wise investment,” she said.

What is the qualification criteria for this program?

The productive carrying the weight for the unproductive. It’s what the democrats keep voting for

If it doesn't put many directly into hands to piss away then it doesn't count and get votes.

Those potholes have worked for over 50 years. Why change them now?

All for naught as the voters of Orleans Parish will never elect her as Mayor.

the federal funds from the American Rescue Plan Act
Did the Feds give this to the state and then the state give it to N.O.?
If so, the state needs to take it back and use it for something useful.

Medical expenses are out of control.
As a Christian, you should prefer this to the absolutely satanic push for suicide in Canada.

You literally can't make this up.

LOL at anyone being lead to believe she might be the savior from Teedy.
A petty thief > a true believer.
She’ll be the final nail in the coffin.

Using tax payers dollars to continually weaken the US economically and buy votes. It’s the Democratic way.

Moreno is a liberal lunatic. Don’t let her anywhere near city hall as a mayor.

Seems like the biggest thing isn't about erasing debt from the poors, but from the actual hospitals.
Now I wonder how hand tied a hospital is if there is a ton of debt from unpaid bills? Seems like it would be much harder to expand or get loans with a bunch of debt on the books.
Doubt this plan ever goes through, but it would be interesting to follow these hospitals and see what new renovations are made after their debt gets wiped clean.

How about no.
And yet, I had Moreno on the short Democrat list for future candidates for LA governor. She seemed like one of those fiscal democrats by fighting back Teedy on some her proposals but socially liberal, but now I think she went full cuckoo with this proposal.
If you think about this, all this proposal would be is a payback to her potential donor class of doctors and or attorneys who pursue who medical collections that live in the city. That can contribute the funds back to her and respective council members.
If it is an old medical bill, it has been charged off and the doctors have already written off the debt on their taxes. Typically, 6 months to a year after it hasn’t been paid. They will then sell it for a loss for the tax benefit to a collection agency for them to seek payment.
The only way they don’t go this route is if it is a large amount and they feel they can recover more using the courts through a lawsuit by suing the debtor directly as the hospital through a judgement.
Also, with medical bills as high as they can get to, how many people is she looking at helping? If my multiplication is correct, let’s say 10 people racked up 1 million dollars of medical bills each, that is 10 million dollars.
So, a few million for medical bill repayment may not go very far.
Now if you are purchasing the charged off debt it may go a little further, if you can purchase the debt for let’s say 25 or 10 cents on the dollar then that can go 4 to 10 times further.
But who are you helping at this point, the deadbeats who didn’t pay their medical bills and who probably have a few other dings on their credit report, all they get at this point is paid collection on their credit report; or doctors who already sold the debt to a collection agency and took the tax write off; or a collection agency that has nothing to lose buying old debt for pennies on the dollar in the hopes that someone pays it to get off their credit report or someone like the city rides in on a white horse to pay the debts of others.
Follow the money, who is contributing to Moreno’s campaign: big hospitals that control medical care and local doctors or the scum bag debt collectors that buy this debt.

Wait. Instead of investing in the police force to curb some of the crime in America's most dangerous city they're goin to use tax payer money to pay medical bills?
