Are therapists helpful to people without serious problems or not?
If so do you go in person or virtual, and do you feel like it helps you?
I keep seeing ads today for online therapy companies (thanks TikTok
) and it made me curious. Mental health seems like it’s got a lot of focus on it lately.

Had 3 middle aged friends commit suicide after their long term relationships dissolved.
I really wish we destigmatized men seeking help
I've gone in the past and it was incredibly helpful navigating grief

I had some issues several years ago and went and talked to someone. I was so buried in my issues that it was very helpful to have a trained professional asking the right questions to pull me out.

Any trained therapist will tell you that everyone seek therapy. Even if you don't feel anything is wrong, they will help you find something.

I started seeing one when my dad’s mental illness issues started back in 2018. Was feeling overwhelmed with all of it. Would go like once every 4 weeks (more often if needed). Was very very helpful when I was dealing with infertility and then later on with my divorce and death of my father.
Even though things are much better now I still see him (but have only done FaceTime sessions since the pandemic cause he is in his 70s and immunocompromised). Now it’s like every 6 weeks. It’s nice to have an unbiased ear to talk to and vent to at times. My insurance covers it so my copay is only like $30 a session. I used my work EAP multiple times to get a bunch of free sessions as well.
The key is finding a therapist you feel comfortable talking to and that you have a good rapport with.

Yes, I do.
Twice a week, minimum.
She’s very handy.

I was one of those guys that thought this made you less than manly.
I was wrong. A good counselor can work wonders.

Did they have children?
If not, it is what they wanted and you should respect their decision.
If they had kids, yeah that is fckked up.

If i don’t and don’t get prescribed meds for anxiety and depression, one week after I’m off the meds it gets really really bad for me

Yes. It’s expensive as hell because I go to an out of network therapist, but it’s worth every penny. I’m working on a year sober, anxiety and depression is under control, lost 60 lbs and infinitely more happy with myself and my family life.
The hardest part for me was admitting that it could help, but a lot of that was the fear of the lifestyle change and the shame of admitting that I had a problem with alcohol. I’m no longer afraid to have meaningful and honest conversations with my wife and therapy helped me to be able to identify feelings and utilize tools to process those emotions.

Yes. I started once a week for 3 months for perfectionist/overwhelming anxiety. I now go once a month for a check in because it’s been life changing in the best way possible.
I’ve been on every anxiolytic and antidepressant under the sun and nothing worked like therapy and exercise.

I just wad all my emotions up and shove as far down as I can, like a good red-blooded American male.

Therapy helped me out with my horrendous post partum depression and rage. Like helped so much that I’m not sure I would be here today without it. And I saw a therapist not a psychiatrist. All they wanted to do was put me in the looney bin.

I love all these positive responses.
I’ve never done therapy, but the idea of talking about things with someone who doesn’t know you sounds kinda nice.
