Give us more money!! So we can misappropriate it!

JACKSON, Miss. —
The Jackson City Council voted Tuesday to investigate $1 million in missing COVID-19 funds.

Ward 3 City Councilman Kenneth Stokes called for the investigation surrounding what he said was the termination of former constituent services manager Keyshia Sanders and allegations that the $1 million in COVID-19 funds are missing.

"We need to find out what happened. If she didn't have anything to do with the money missing, then let her come back," Stokes said.

Stokes said if they don't get to the bottom of what happened to the money, the council could be held liable.

Before a unanimous vote approving Stokes' resolution, council members were surprised to learn from the City Attorney's Office that more than a year ago, they passed a similar order to investigate the matter. The results of the $10,000 internal investigation conducted by Phelps Dunbar Law Firm were inconclusive.

"What we're going to do first is get the paperwork from Phelps Dunbar. We should have what I will call a paper trail as to the people we need to talk to," Stokes said.

City leaders previously said the Jackson Police Department and Hinds County District Attorney's Office were investigating the missing money.

"I mean, there certainly is reason, I think, to investigate it again and just find out where we are and what's going on," said Ward 7 Councilwoman Virgi Lindsay.

The mayor's office told the council the state auditor's office is investigating.

So they “”””lost”””” 1,000,000. They paid 10,000 to find it. They forgot about even searching for it. And this whole time it has been whitey’s fault their water system failing. Oh yea.. they want 1,000,000,000 to fix that too.

So get off your raciss wallets and pony up!! Oh and the terms are to just hand it to them and then walk away. It’s not like the money will just disappear or anything. They will get it right this time!

The mayor's sister, Rukia, held her a rally the other day, calling for federal troops to come to Jackson to force the Mississippi legislature to fund $1,000,000,000 in "repairs" to Jackson's water system. The jokes just continue to write themselves in Jackson

I’ll save them an investigation…the missing money is in the pockets of local politicians/community organizers.

$1m missing is a drop in the bucket to the total amount of money missing.

And that is probably a drop in the bucket in the total that has simply been wasted and/or squandered...

Does this guy think he just came up with this reference term? smfh

Also, calling sections of town/city "wards" has always come off as "prisoney" to me. Maybe it's fitting for this shitehole.

What is it about certain folks that makes this type of thing second...first...nature? It's as if they think it's just part of the job.

How many Atlanta mayors have been indicted or sent to jail? The last one thought it was A-OK to just buy first class tickets to a Super Bowl the first week on the job.

My rinky-dink hometown in south GA has had the same issues. Missing funds, pointed fingers, crony law enforcement do nothing about it. This type of leadership is why you have towns with nothing left but a Dollar General, social service offices, and wig shops.

It seems like "a part of the job" handed down to them like a race baton on inauguration day. Problem is there are no real ways for the citizenry to audit them as they are the auditors.

Another is is city leaders have meetings with people that the people don't know about or have the right know about. They don't serve the people voting these people in.

Can an audit be performed when there are no records?

You can safely bet it wasn't accidentally spent on the public water system.
