The accrediting council for the American Bar Association (ABA) voted 15-1 to no longer require the administering of the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) for law school applications, according to the Wall Street Journal.
quote:
Starting in 2025, the ABA will no longer mandate that law schools require a “valid and reliable admission test” as a part of its application process, after feedback from a public comment period suggested that dropping the testing requirement would increase diversity, according to WSJ.
quote:
The Clinical Legal Education Association, a group focused on promoting justice and diversity within the legal foundation, argued that dropping the LSAT requirement would allow law schools to individually address “the persistent lack of racial diversity” within their institutions, according to the WSJ.

Law schools can still require it if they want, and this doesn't change any of the requirements for actually becoming an attorney. And for the record, there was never a minimum LSAT score; schools were simply required to force their applicants to take it and report their score.
This is a big nothingburger.
Eta: For those unaware, the LSAT isn’t a minimum competency exam. It’s an aptitude exam, like the ACT/SAT. There is no pass fail. There has never been anything stopping a law school from accepting someone who got, literally, every LSAT question wrong. All that was required was that the individual take the exam and report their score.

So, it makes it easier for minorities to be accepted because the test won’t be mandated for them. This provides cover to admissions departments.
But white and Asian applicants will have more competition, thus effectively requiring them to make higher scores

Lol if you think standardized testing is a determinant of competency in the real world

In some fields, you bet.

Based on the countless affirmative action threads I’ve seen on this board, it seems like having to report LSAT scores hasn’t exactly been an impediment to giving admissions preference according to race. So what, in your opinion, does this change?

I read about this yesterday on here.

Most lawyers are huge SJWs. Hopefully these schools will just stop accepting whitey and Jew, and fill their classes with hispanics and blacks.
That would be justice, and hilarious.

Another symptom of a society in reverse

To be honest the lsat doesn’t have a single thing to do with practicing law. I’m ok with this.
I also wish the la bar association would go to a 2 year apprenticeship requirement in lieu of the bar. The bar has almost nothing to do with practicing law.

Fair but the policy behind this decision is directed at “equity” so it’s not a good one
