It’s possible I’m misreading, but it appears to say in the article you linked the numbers on dreamers were not provided.
Argue against a permanent status for dreamers all you want, but polls consistently show it’s a minority position and most people don’t view it the same as broad “amnesty”.
And for politicians I have no doubt they view this issue with cynicism of creating votes. But the support for this issue amongst voters is undoubtedly personal. DACA people aren’t in the shadows. They graduated high school here, have SSN and are working above the table.

If anything in this whole government debacle screams “I’m a compromised elected official”, it’s John Cornyn supporting anything that is favorable to ILLEGAL ALIENS!
Very few people in Texas actually support spending tax dollars to encourage more illegal immigration, even legal Hispanic immigrants aren’t in favor of doing stuff to encourage more illegals.
You can be assured, Cornyn is compromised in some way and being coerced to support ideas and programs that are not what his constituents are in favor of.

It's not as though they don't give you more than enough advance notice of exactly what they are.
Not that long ago, Lee lamented and was all apologetic to Cruz and Beck that because of a previous engagement he couldn't be standing with both of them down on the border handing out Teddy Bears to the teenagers among the fence-jumpers - but he added that he wanted to be there for that disastrous photo-op.
Plus his comments about Jan 6.
