Why were air defense missiles pointed at Poland in the first place?

I mean, when I was a kid with my bb gun I didnt put the bottle I was shooting at in front of the house, I shot so that if I missed it fell harmlessly.
And they have attempted to shoot down hundreds of missiles, and this time it suddenly goes into Poland?

I would think SAM would target incoming missiles or planes. You don’t target land.

Depending on where the Russian missile came from, there are a lot of areas where a Ukrainian defense missile could have originated from, missed its target, and crossed into Poland.

It was on purpose. And it just so happens to hit two poor Polish citizens. Not crash in a field of desolate eastern Poland?

Assume that a Russian missile is fired from the vicinity of Kursk or Rostov. It crosses Ukraine, headed westward for L'viv. As it nears L'viv, a counter missile is fired at it (from behind). If the counter missile HITS the cruise missile, debris from BOTH continue westward and may well land in Poland. If the counter missile MISSES the cruise missile, the counter missile continues westward and may well land in Poland.
It MAY be possible to hit and destroy that Rostov-to-L'viv cruise missile if you fire your counter missile head-on or from either the north or the south (each of which would be less likely to pepper Poland), but I think that your chances of actually HITTING the cruise missile and saving lives in L'viv is MUCH lower using that trajectory.

How is that your take away from his comment?
If a Russian missile is heading towards Lviv or points NNW of Lviv from the ESE, and a Ukrainian SAM battery located anywhere south or east of Lviv attempts to intercept, it runs the risk of an interceptor missile missing its target and ending up travelling towards Poland.

I suppose we could be assured that debris will never fall on Poland if the Russians are kind-enough to launch all of their cruise missiles southbound from Belarus, such that the debris would fall SOUTH of the target, rather than WEST of the target, but (thus far) Russia does not seem to be firing missiles from Belarus.

Why was zelensky lying about the accidental missile strike?
I have no doubt that it was just an accident... but zelensky took an obvious accident, and falsely claimed others launched that Poland strike. He took an accident that no one would blame Ukraine for, and attempted to turn it into a false flag. Had everyone trusted his bullshite, it could've set fire to the whole world.

Oh he jumped the gun, for sure. In his attempts to rally other countries to his cause, he attempted to use the incident to his advantage. We don't know if he was lying or just ran with that narrative before knowing any facts.

My concern is his unwillingness to admit to having made a mistake and to admit that everyone from the US to Poland is probably assessing the matter correctly.
