Burger lovers - Shake Shack opens a new Baton Rouge store today

I know they added outdoor seats and a drive thru in case pandemic restrictions ever return....but I wonder if they'll install those misting fans for the patio for the summer months. It gets hot AF in Louisiana in June-August.
I've never been a huge fan of their burgers, but their shakes and fries are damn good. Chicken fingers are also very solid.

The first Baton Rouge location of Shake Shack is slated to open next week, right off Bluebonnet Boulevard. The new spot for the famous burger restaurant is part of the Mall of Louisiana shopping and dining district, nestled in between LongHorn Steakhouse and Peregrin’s Christmas Store.
What started out as a hot dog stand in New York City’s Madison Square Park now has over 400 locations worldwide, and the company thinks it will be right at home in the Capital Region.
“We look for energized communities that we think our brand will resonate within,” Andrew McCaughan, Chief Development Officer at Shake Shack, says. “We love the sense of community in Baton Rouge, and that’s been an important value to Shake Shack from day one.”
The Shake Shack team committed to opening a location in Baton Rouge in early 2021 and will follow through on that promise with a grand opening for the public on Monday, Nov. 14. McCaughan says the day will begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony and special entertainment. The first 100 guests through the drive-thru will receive limited edition Shake Shack swag.

That location is going to be absolutely horrendous for traffic

They never did it for me.
But best of luck to them.

It’ll be ruined like everything else in that area. Service will be terrible.

I haven't been to the one in Metry yet. Any good?

I've been to the Metairie location several times.
I really want to like it.
It's just ok. Not worth the price for sure.

The drive thru will make Chick Fil A and Canes feel empty....at least for a few weeks after opening.
These places are always overwhelmed until the novelty wears off.

That's where I am. The fries are awesome, but that's not enough to bring me to the restaurant and deal with the crowds.
It's certainly not bad, but I don't get what Anthony Bourdain was raving over. Also - SS has shuttered some locations during the pandemic. I don't think they are doing as well as they look.

They need to turn the old Sears into a Lifetime Fitness, then push out some of the crappy old restaurants like Red Robin and Red Lobster in favor of Seasons 52 or something similar.
Shake Shack is a good add though. That will definitely bring in a lot more traffic.

Unfortunately, that is reality. These chains come into BR with some "national" people working at the outset to make sure everything takes off smoothly. Eventually they move on and leave it to the BR local workforce...which inevitably causes it to fall apart. The only way a chain truly thrives in BR is if it is locally owned and those owners are completely invested in the day to day operations

Red Robin shut down two weeks ago.

I used to live right next to the one at the Morgan station off Chicago's pink line in the west loop. It was almost always empty even for dinner rush. The locations next to shopping malls seem to do much better.
It wasn't bad food by any stretch, but it just wasn't worth the price IMO. Kind of like Nando's Peri Peri, which was sort of a hot but over-rated chain before the pandemic too.
Nando's and Shake Shack are both priced almost at full service restaurant levels, but they are counter service. And newer Shake Shacks have drive-thrus, which will invite comparisons to fast food restaurants and highlight the price delta between them and places like Whataburger or Chick Fil A.

Good. Red Robin is a horrible restaurant.
Red Lobster is inexplicably popular. I don't understand how most of them survive, especially the ones in south Louisiana. I can only assume they are giving away free food.

If you want to try Shake Shack, I recommend staying away for at least 3-4 weeks. The crowd will be a nightmare.

Longhorn will not be able to use their parking lot for a while.

I was not at all impressed with the one on Canal Street (the place I wanted to go was closed and it was late-ish on a Sunday), but that may have more to do with it being in New Orleans than the franchise as a whole.

The SmokeShack is legit...

Been to the original at Madison Sq. Pk. and others in Manhattan and SoFlorida. They were all very good. However, it’s all about the quality of the staff as well as product. Compare Chicfila’s service levels with Wendy’s, Burger King, etc. Don’t know how Baton Rouge labor force will affect management of a Shake Shack. It’s my understanding that Baton Rouge had Smashburger and Grimaldi’s and both closed. Very popular places in Florida.
