Red Rocks Concert-Denver Trip

Long time listener, first time caller. Headed out to Red Rocks next spring for a concert with some buddies and are going to spend the weekend in Denver. Any tips on where to grab an AirBnB or hotel and best means of travel to Red Rocks? Looks like it could be made with an Uber. Any advice appreciated. Never been to Denver outside of work related events so any advice about where to check out around town would be good too. Breweries, bars, clubs, good restaurants, etc. Trying to make the most of the 3 days we'll be out there.

Awesome rundown, appreciate it!

I just saw Chicago at the RR a few months ago. Awesome venue. There are a few shuttles that leave from downtown Denver and that works out great. Large Greyhound bus shuttles. Just google “red rocks shuttles”.

Nice just found shuttles than run from Illegal Pete’s and Thirsty Lion. Are those good areas of town and maybe worth grabbing a hotel nearby so we could just walk over?

I was in Denver for the first time (airport not included) last weekend for a friend's Halloween shindig.
You will not find a ton of Uber (political reasons) so make sure to download Lyft. You will need the app to get scooters and stuff downtown as well.
Not as bad as California, but there are a *lot* of homeless in parks near expensive condos in downtown. They seemed to have been relatively benign, but be aware.
Restaurant service was the absolute worst I've experienced in the US in over a decade. This ranges from Denny's to random bars downtown. Unbelievably bad, and I wasn't exactly sober most of the time, which should have made me more forgiving.
Everything you wear will smell like weed at the end of the day.
Avoid "the shops at Northfield." It is essentially an outdoor mall, with a Bar Louie and three or four other bars at the south end of the property that you will quickly leave.
The small chain called "Stoney's Bar and Grill" is pretty reliable, there are a couple of locations. One of them was overrun with 25 year old UGA a-hole fans (I repeat myself), the other one in uptown was full of normal people of all backgrounds, but didn't constantly talk crap about how big their UGA Johnsons were. Go to the Uptown location if you can.
You will see more drugs done in front of you than you probably have in your life. The guy you meet is probably ok with you sleeping with his wife/girlfriend. If you're trying to hook up, do the Croc Dundee check early; I've NEVER, EVER, seen so many trannies in my entire life, including being in Europe, as I did two weeks ago in DEN.
They annoyingly call DEN "DIA" (DEN is the official airport code, "DIA" just stands for Denver international Airport, which is not what any of the airlines use.)

There's not really a good or bad area of town that I saw. Like MSY, it's fine on this street, farked on the street next to it. During the day, it's general harassment, although not as bad as in MSY. I don't know your personality or your ability to deal with intra-personal conflict, (I just DGAF anymore, and have become the "GTFO my lawn" dude.")
You're just going to get a Lyft from one place to another anyway.
Have a plan to leave any place you are before you get there.

Yep. Thirsty Lion is where I departed from. Nice sports type bar/restaurant.

Thirsty lion isn’t an amazing area. That’s next to Union Station which is really crowded and has quite a few homeless. It’s not awful and you won’t get robbed or anything but it’s not the area I’d prefer to be in at night.
Was there after the concert and did not feel unsafe at all. In fact, I helped a 70 year old lady and her daughter find their hotel as they were a bit lost. No worse than any other large city at night.

I have to be in Denver for about a day and a half in February for some meetings and I planned it so the wife and kids could join. The plan was to stay at The Crawfod. The wife and kids would enjoy Denver while I was in meetings and then we would catch an Avs game before heading to Breck for the remainder of the week.
I'm strongly considering finding a different hotel or possibly sending them directly to Breck.
I would gladly take any suggestions on where to stay and what to do (in February) with a 9 & 11 year old.

Bob Moses/Ben Bohmer and it’s a bro trip with no wives/girlfriends. Going there to drink a ton of beer and partake in the known Denver local offerings.
Not treating it like a trip to Vegas or Cabo, but we are going there to eat/drink well. Would’ve probably hit a Rockies game had they had a home series that weekend but unfortunately they don’t.

Get your walking shoes on. Great venue.

I've done it in an Uber, edited because I remember now that it was more of a Lyft place as well. Very easy. They have the rideshare pickup area nicely organized. I've stayed in the RINO area twice. There are a lot of AirBnbs and lots of restaurants and bars as well. It's a kind of funky area that's currently undergoing gentrification. Lots of stuff is walkable.
Agreed on the week everywhere. I didn't find homeless to be aggressive, but I live in Houston and not much phases me. Most are just there. Cherry Creek area is nice, but too far away from all the places you'd want to hang out. Watch out for all the folks on the scooters driving them to fast and weaving on the sidewalks. Lots of great breweries.

When we went there, we stayed in Golden. We had a blast.
