Just saw this on the band's Twitter feed. His guitar was a huge part of the soundtrack of my younger years, riding with my dad on his Silverado.

I know he had been diagnosed with Parkinson's a few years back and had quit touring. I also think I saw on here that he had suffered a stroke.

Never met him personally, but I was at his place up on the mountain at Fort Payne once. He had a recording studio up there at his house/compound. He had a bad arse collection of guitars.
I have met Randy Owen and the drummer Mark Herndon before, both were nice guys.
Anyhow, the guy did pretty well for himself, hell of a life.
When Randy goes, If I hear about it, I'll probably take that a little hard. I sent him some songs once and he gave me the nicest rejection letter that you could imagine. Even gave me a list of other contacts for submissions.
I met him at a cattle auction years later and almost brought that up, but there were a lot of other people trying to talk to him too.

Radio will wear out Alabama - Christmas In Dixie this season. And I don't have a problem with that. One of the best holiday tunes.

THE best country band of all time. They changed the game and the early 80s Alabama was the soundtrack of my younger years. My parents would absolutely wear out their records. Windows up in the house, nice breeze blowing through, and "Words at Twenty Paces", "Why Lady Why", "Mountain Music", "Close Enough to Perfect" and many others would be playing. I can still hear it and smell the air. The best music and time of my life. Randy and the boys just put on jeans and t-shirts and played great music.

Same here. On a couple of vacation road trips we’d listen to Mountain Music and Closer You Get front to back, such complete works really. Not a weak song there.

Crazy how they could do fun and upbeat songs to absolutely wretched sad songs (Why Lady Why, She Put the Sad in his songs, Lady Down on Love) and timeless wonders like Alabama Sky and Changes Comin On.
