Coater, it's called a hurricane.

Reminds me of Skip Bertman’s quote that a tornado went through Starkville and did a million dollars worth of improvements

Avoid Gulfport (unless Bayou View, Bayou Bluff, private school) & Biloxi (unless Back Bay, private school).
Ocean Springs & Bay St Louis: great downtown atmosphere & restaurants, good schools.
Pass Christian: Great school, beautiful public grounds & park, good restaurants (few though)
Long Beach: Best school, a few good restaurants, quiet community, property is scarce, live close to Railroad for easy access to beach as there’s not much there and you’ll be going to the other coastal destinations often.

Ocean Springs I believe is 7000 and it’s growing.

We live in Pass Christian so I’ll take that area out of the picture since I’m biased. Ocean Springs would be my first pick and I’ve seen Bay St Louis mentioned a lot but if you can’t afford to live in “Old Town” BSL, I’d pass. Everything surrounding BSL - Waveland, Kiln are dumps. Biloxi is okay if you can get into a nice neighborhood.

Mississippi is horrible. Believe everything you hear or see about how bad it is here. We’re all poor, ignorant racists.

I say this in jest because I’ve lived in a few different states and travel all over for work, and while there’s a lot of great places in this country I love coming home it really is different here. Also some of us don’t mind everyone else’s perception of Mississippi because it keeps the riff raff away. And wade didn’t move to Long Beach for better schools etc. it’s to be closer to the new Buccee’s they’re building.

I Live in Long Beach. It’s a nice quiet small town with a handful of things around. You’ll find your self going to Pass And Bay St Louis alot for entertainment which is fine because they are all within 15-20min driving.

We do private catholic school but the schools here are definitely the better ones in the area.

It’s a great family environment and pretty much anything you want to do is within 30min driving.

NOLA is only an hour if you want to do anything there. I can be on Bourbon from my driveway in 1:15

Wife and I are in Biloxi right now and just got back to the hotel from Ocean Springs. We love their little downtown area and went to the open market and art festival there this morning. TONS of booths there with all kinds of shite to see and buy if you wanted to. It’s just a nice, quaint area and a cool place to walk around and kill a morning.

We also ate breakfast at a place called Lady May, and it was fricking delicious.

OS seems like a cool place to retire to. Similar vibe to Fairhope, AL.

IMO, that's your best bet (and Woolmarket) and where I see next phase of growth.

I know 3 young families that live/lived in Woolmarket and they all lamented the decision. Two of them don’t like being out there and 1 actually sold their house and moved back into Biloxi proper. They keep saying it’s going to develop but it just doesn’t. You end up just in a subdivision outside of town where you still have to drive in to get everything. Your mileage may vary.

Their band is amazing, it’s the best on the coast by far. That seemingly implies a large pool of intelligent kids to choose from…however I’m not sure they field a decent sports team at all, they are terrible at football.

I graduated from Long Beach High in 05. I was a 4 year letter on the golf team and we won district 4 years in a row! So you can piss off with your "decent sports team" remark

I live in Hattiesburg now and my folks still live right off the beach in Biloxi. You really cant beat the area. OS is awesome. Long Beach, Pass Christian, Bay St. Louis are awesome as well. Still only 15-20 minutes from all the entertainment that Biloxi/ Gulfport have to offer.

Tarranto’s north of 10 off the Woolmarket exit is good seafood and steaks in a casual small family restaurant.

What is the industry/job market for these areas? What industry could a Baton Rouge baw look for in the area and maintain quality of life with kids?

I have a good friend that just retired to Back Bay Biloxi. I couldnt afford to raise kids there.

There’s very little to no industry. My entire family is in the area and I intended to return but couldn’t find a job.

I was specifically talking about my friends area (he is on the bay though). I would have all my eggs into real estate/tax/insurance basket.

pascagoula about 20/25 minutes (from my house) to the East has Ingalls shipbuilding yard and Chevron. (a bit further but still easier than BR bridge traffic)

easy drive out that way from biloxi/diberville.
