A 2.8 handicap would require any person to play golf a minimum of 4 times a week.

A 6.7 would require a minimum of 3 times a week.

Golf isn't like riding a bike. It takes constant practice.

Most certainly a person who has a 2 handicap could take a few months off and go out and shoot a 78. But note a handicap is essentially your best score average. The handicap takes your top 10 scores of your last 20 rounds.
So, a 2.8 handicap would require someone to average around a 74 for half of your rounds. You just can't do that playing sporadically.

Exactly. I worked my handicap down to 8 right out of college because I had the time to play 4 days a week. Then I got married and had kids.

Which makes me think the handicap scores listed have to be their best handicaps ever.

Agree with your point here, and will say if you are playing the same course(s) for those 20 or so rounds; very good chance you will be able to knock that handicap down a bit just from a comfort level & knowledge of how the course plays.

That's not true at all. I know it's anecdotal, but you said anybody, but I have a buddy that's +3 and he plays about every other week. I don't really believe Trump is a 2.8, but it's not because he plays <4 times a week.

I was down to a 6.4 only playing 4-5 times a month, without practice ... so no. I was on a hot streak. Played in the upper 70's for a stretch.

Currently 9.5, which is probably closer to a true level.

No necessary. I know a guy that plays like two or three times a year and shoots around par golf.

I got down to a 5.4 playing 1.5 times (27 holes) a week. Now I play every 3 weeks or so and am probably a 10-12.

Also, you can shoot 77-78 for half your scores and over 80 for the rest and be a 2-3 handicap if your course rating is 75+ with a high slope.

I’m a 6.5 and play once a month if I’m lucky
