Reliability and power of the Titan XDs

So with all the trouble I have had with my GMC I am re-evaluating all the available 1/2 tons.
Was set on a Ford with the 5.0 but now thinking Ram.
Saw the XD that was leveled with tires and it didn't look too bad.
Anyone familiar with them?

Have a 2020 XD pro4x. 37k miles so far. Love the truck. 9 speed transmission is smooth. Good power. I tow 4-6k lb loads about once a month and pull a tractor which comes in around 10k a couple times a year. Also my daily driver.
Pros: very smooth transmission with well known reliable 5.6 V8, comes loaded with tech/safety features, has goose neck option, engine sounds great, extremely comfortable seats
Cons: turning radius of a barge, horrible clarity of backup camera (bird’s eye 360 camera makes up for it)
MPG: average 14-15, gets 18-19 on hwy and as low as 12 when I’m stuck in BR traffic a lot. Towing seems to be 10-12 depending on the load
I love it. Came from a 2011 Sierra which I loved. This truck is way better. Don’t see many XDs and it looks like the Titan line may be on its last leg. I got mine for 54k completely loaded before the prices exploded.

Watch the truck comparison vids.
The gas burner is the way to go.

I assume they are cancelling the diesel and keeping the titan, no?

Nope, doing away with it completely which does give me pause, Nissan will still be around but will that make parts a lot more expensive to get.
Also I didn't realize they had a lot of issues with that 5.0 Cummins motor.

Stay away. The gas version is a good truck.

Not really.
Nissan is probably the best since late 90s GM at making a bunch of stuff fit A LOT of vehicles.

Good to know, it comes standard with a 6.5ft bed on the crew cabs and has a gooseneck hookup.
I see plenty of f150 crews with the full bed driving around but ever time I call around there isn't one within a 1000 miles.

They stopped the Cummins a few years ago, and for good reasons. That engine was just a big POS for whatever reason.

XD Diesel shitty mileage even if you spend the extra money to tune it.
Towing anything above a small aluminum boat your gonna avg 10mpg...period no arguments.
Only way to go is a gas model.

I have a Titan I bought in 2019. Ran into my dealer at a tailgate a few weeks ago and he said that they got word from Nissan they are NOT discontinuing the Titan. There may be some trims/models that are being discontinued but not all platforms.
I have the 2019 SV Midnight 4WD and love it. Had one recall for an electrical component. Only other issue is the display will randomly reset mid-drive, but no powertrain issues. Just hit 40k miles on mine and will most likely get another one when it comes time.

I have a 2017 Titan SL 4x4 with 118k miles. Never had a mechanical failure with the engine. I am having intermittent starter solenoid failure which is gonna be expensive to fix. Also, my 4x4 is sometimes a pain in the arse to switch back to 2 wheel drive for whatever reason, gotta repeatedly switch back and forth and whatnot. A new starter is $450 and it's located under the exhaust manifold of all places. Very smooth and quite truck, has no problems pulling a 5000lb boat, you don't notice it's back there. The obvious downside is mileage. It's terrible. I average 16mpg between city and highway, and only get 8-10 pulling a boat on the interstate.

If I was worried about gas mileage I would buy a Camary. My biggest concern is main powertrain reliability.

6.2 f250 ford with the 6 speed diesel transmission.
7.3 gasser with the 10 speed has equal of not better fuel mileage but they are both pretty new. Ford is stopping the 6.2 and opting for the 6.8 for some reason...
I believe dodge started putting that ZF transmission in their 3/4s... wont get much more reliable than the 5.7. They may have quit putting those in the 3/4 and are sticking with the 6.4s. Not sure
Edit: post 2013 and up f250 have the upgraded brakes.

I have a 2018 Titan SV. Best thing is the warranty. No one else can match it. 5yr/100k miles. Tows like a beast but shitty gas mileage. I get about 11mpg towing my frontier.

They vk motor will turn 6500 rpm all day long. The transmission, drain and fill every 30k miles and it will last even if you abuse it. I have 300k on a jatco unit that I routinely tow double the capacity it's rated for.
