The one that always kept me up at night was the Night Call episode. Season 5 episode 9.

I'm thinking these two I'm about to mention are Twilight Zone episodes, but they could be from something else.

The first is the one where a lady is driving along and keeps passing up this hitchhiker. Turns out that the hitchhiker is death and has come to collect the driver.

The second is one where this person finds themself in a small town. Eventually they try to leave the town, but they just end up right back in it.

I remember one where this old lady is in her house and keeps trying to kill this rodent or something. Turns out the “rodent” are US astronauts and they landed in her house and she was from space but much larger than us.

Does anyone remember the Rod Serling series Night Gallery? That show used to terrify me.

Yeah, that one with Gladys Cooper, "Night Call," was the very first one to come to mind when I saw the thread title. Excellent episode. Also liked the eeriness of one of the hour-long episodes about the astronauts who see their ship crashed. I think it was called "Death Ship" or something like that. The Shatner episode with the air gremlin is good fun.

But two that a lot of people like are "It's a Great Life" and "To Serve Man," but I didn't care for either of those very much. A little too self-satisfied, too precocious, for my tastes. Not really a big fan of Serling's teleplays either, to be honest. Often too heavy-handed, too messagey, too many angst-filled soliloquies. The inherent nature of short-story writing of that era, unfortunately. I prefer the more punchy pulp-stylings that preceded it, which didn't wallow in so much psychological introspection or social moralizing.

I was scared as a kid by the Twilight Zone with William Shatner and the monster on the airplane wing. Still creeps me out. And the one with the "ugly" disfigured woman in the hospital.

I have a few favorites.

To Serve Man of course. Starring John Fetterman

and The Last Rights of Jeff Myrtlebank, where James Best (Roscoe P Coletrain) is in a coffin at his own funeral and sits up. The town people think he's a zombie and late in the episode he takes out a match and it lights on it's own.

Yes.

Night Gallery was the scarier of the two, but Twilight Zone was better.
