News flash to Handsome Pete and the rest of you mouth breathers.

LSU has a veterinary medicine department. They know more about animal behavior than you nit wits.

LSU has had a veterinary medicine department for 100 years. Did the science change 15 years ago? Would love to see that data. Maybe all those previous veterinarians just didn’t care? Or, did social media become a thing around then and it was the mouth breathing masses online who project their own anxieties onto an animal that killed this tradition.

I get it, Mike is not coming back, just don’t pretend it’s based on any kind of science or medicine.

The only tigers that need to be on the field Saturday night are your Fightin’ Tigers of LSU.

It is possible that things can change and be perfectly legitimate. What sort of “data” are you expecting to see? A double blind randomized experiment of tigers exposed to loud stadiums? Measuring what exactly? What’s the cost-benefit of being wrong on this? Traumatizing a tiger vs. a bunch of drunk simpletons missing out on being able to go, “oooh looky der! Ah tigah in dah stad’um!!” Don’t pretend like it’s anything else.

Exactly what studies have shown that exposure to crowds or loud noises 7 times a year is bad for tigers? Stressful? It’s not like the jungle tigers evolved in was a low stress environment. It’s called anthropomorphism - projecting human characteristics, in this case weaknesses, on an animal.

Exactly. Studies have actually shown the exact opposite. Captive animals actually respond much better to training and activities. It’s done everyday with big cats in Vegas and around the world, and those cats thrive. LSU somehow has let Peta convince them that training is harmful based on the non-expert opinions of activists. Abandoning an animal to solitude in a cage is much worse than exposure to training and activities.

I highly doubt bringing Mike to a game 7 times a year is going to shave any years off his life, but even if it does it's not a big deal. It's not like we're using Mike to reproduce and help repopulate the tiger species, and when we get a replacement it'll likely be another rescue situation. He's a mascot, put him in the stadium

What sort of data? How about anything other than you projecting your social anxieties onto an animal. “Traumatizing” a tiger? WTF? You throw around these words like they mean something. How is this so-called trauma manifesting? This stinks of the “safe space” crowd claiming injury when exposed to mean words.

Again, I know this ship has sailed, but stop trying to tell me it’s anything other than PR to soothe the Twitter mobs.

You need data because it’s clear you don’t have a lick of fricking common sense.

Here’s some data for you, my dogs freak the frick out anytime they hear fireworks. Get off your fricking high horse. Having some damn empathy and compassion for animals isn’t the same thing as being a PETA sympathizer

Mike isn't your kid or your pet. He's a mascot. He serves a purpose and he should be on the field. Now you can certainly make an argument that we shouldn't have a live tiger for a mascot, but the fact is that we do. And as long as we do he should be used as such. What's the point in half assing it

Pets tend to take the mentality of their owner. In your dogs case they’re pussies for obvious reasons.

So no one had common sense for the previous 75 years or whatever? I don’t recall any previous tigers having problems with PTSD. Your example with your dogs proves my point. Don’t project your inbred fur baby problems onto a full grown tiger. You people just imagine what the tiger might feel based on your own prejudices. If there was one single report of Mike quivering under the bed after being exposed to a crowd, I’d be the first to give him a hug and escort him to a safe space. I can’t have empathy or compassion for things that happen in your imagination.
