Not talking about the size of the rack compared to the monsters y'all shoot.

Are these spots on the side of it's neck normal to see? The taxidermist said it had tick damage and he had to use pieces of more than one cape to complete it. It didn't help that I didn't cut the cape back enough, not knowing any better cause it was my first deer. Not complaining about the work, just curious about the spots. Maybe those were gun shots from the pieces he used of other deer.

You need to find another taxidermist.

The tick damage was on the cape from your deer? How far did you cut it back? If he added a cape it seems pretty seem less to me, but I’m not sure why the damage wasn’t discussed first and maybe consider just using a cape from another buck entirely?

Honestly if that damage is legit and how your buck looked alive, roll with it.

I admit, I cut it short, like real short, in front of the front shoulders. I don't remember seeing any damage to the fur. I'd say he used damaged pieces to complete it due to me cutting it short. He might've let his retarded brother do it. Idk. I hung it anyway. It's my first one. They can only get better from here on right?

You drug that buck off the mountain. Probably messed up the cape a bit doing that.
If the cape was bad, the taxi should have told you that they couldn’t use the cape and would need one from another buck. Get a different taxidermist next time.
I’ve got a buck with a scar on his shoulder. It looks like someone screwed up skinning it. He had the same scar in trailcam picks.

A good taxidermist will usually find you a comparable cape if yours is damaged or cut short. Or you can see if a friend who shoots one and doesn’t intend to use his cape will give you one.

I know from experience.

It almost looks like it wasn’t frozen/thawed out and started rotting where some of the meat was left on the cape. I would never use that taxidermist again.

Just shoot another one and use the cape. Use a different person.

Next time, just do a European mount, much easier and cheaper.

I hope you didn't pay over $150 for that mess.

Yikes on the hair spots. Never seen that before. Might want to look around for another taxidermist.

Yeah, that’s bad, and can’t tell you what the problem really is, but the taxidermist should have done this on a different cape. I’ve had to buy a cape, which is like a $25-50 dollar extra, but everything came out beautiful. This looks like an entry into the Bobcat threads….

Only just bought a bow to start hunting, but when that magical day comes when I get a wall hanger, I feel like this is the way I'm going. I know that will be 100% my deer, not a foam block with maybe not even the hide that came with it.

I never liked mounts until I got one. I have mounted 3 in last 5 years now.
