For those like me unlucky enough to have to pay your spouse and kids’ health insurance out of pocket, what are the best coverages you have found recently? Adding them to my employer-paid plan would cost around $1,800/month.

Shite is completely out of control. Then add another $3,000 to $5,000 in deductibles and co-pays

There are no good options for this. If not on a government or company provided route...it's all bad. I wish I could say something positive but I can not.

Sadly, this will likely be your best option.

How many dependents are you covering?

Jeez times like this make me realize how good my family employer plan is. $450 a month, and they contribute 4500 a year to my hsa

Health insurance is a scam bro. Get divorced on paper and let your old lady sign up for Medicaid

Have you looked into medishare?

Unless yall make over $250k, look into Marketplace.

Marketplace was going to be wayy more than my company provided. And I don’t make half of $250k.

I’m at $900/mo for a family of 4 with a $9,750 deductible. We’re also eligible for a $133 discount each month for being healthy and hitting certain metrics. I max out an HSA, but damn I feel like this is pricey myself too.

He said his dependent cost is $1,800 per month. Most marketplace cells will be lower.
Thank your employer for subsidizing your costs adequately.

Look for a Direct Primary Care (DPC) Dr in your area.
Outrageously cheaper than standard insurance.

We've got a private policy through BCBS-LA. It's a grandfathered policy so we're not under Obamacare.
We pay ~$1300/m for me and spouse (both 53) and 2 of our kids (25 and 21). No sense in dropping the 25 yo as it won't do anything to our premium.
It sucks premium wise .. oop is $5600 before they pay a dime and then 80/20 until we hit $10k oop. We do have a HSA.

Shep I'd love your $900 premium.

It’s a pretty terrible substitute- if you get sick enough to need to hospital or diagnosed with The Big C (amongst about 20 other things), you’re looking at near ruin.
That said, the system is entirely screwed, because you can wait until you need hundreds of thousands in care to sign up at all, and everyone else shares the burden both in advance and when you sign up. And if you get hospitalized and never pay your bill, you generally can get away with paying close to none of it. And developing a high need can actually cause you to qualify for Medicaid or Medicare in certain instances. But these are hardly good “strategies.”
