This is hilarious.

Until the past weekend and tonight, I hadn't played in years, maybe a decade or longer.

What happened to simply doing a live broadcast of the winning ping pong balls being drawn? How do they even determine the numbers now?
I get the sense that they're currently running some program to determine a 'non-winner', and will try to milk this lottery mania as long as possible. I bet you anything they've pulled in more than the payout, and want to keep that rolling.

I mean, they kind of have to.
I mean, a LOT more. And by getting the general public excited, they're pulling in a ton now.

Out of curiosity, who are "they", anyway? Is this some government slush fund we're feeding?

it's been delayed 3 and a half hours now. This smells fishy, like they're actually rigging it. I rarely play, but like I said before, you used to be able to tune in at 9:59 and watch the numbers drawn live. I don't know if they still do (I didn't see that happen Saturday, but I was watching the game).

I don't get how a powerball drawing of random numbers can have technical clitches. It's just ping pong balls with numbers on them right? Just pull em out and tell us what they are

The delay is caused by one participating lottery that needs more time to process its sales, the Multi-State Lottery Commission told CNN in a statement. The drawing is still planned to occur after that procedure is completed.

Sounds fishy, apparently it's 1 state holding up the process due to security protocols.

My conspiracy theory is that they gathered a database of all valid combos sold, and are formulating a way to ensure there will be no winning ticket. If it's all tossed into a database (and I'm sure it has been), I'm certain a top-end supercomputer could churn through that in a couple hours, give you the "correct" final draw, and then you have to simulate that somehow (weighting the balls accordingly? if they still do the old system).

I mean, I don't really think this (fully), but it sure is odd that we're now 4+ hrs late.

What are the other options? Are they just going to roll current tickets into the next drawing?

runs powerball. what'll really cook yer noodle is the fact they do test runs beforehand. The tests prob went south so they had to inspect evry machine in detail. They have 8 or so that are rotated and picked at random for each draw.

I wonder what the security issue is. Did someone actually tamper with a machine, or perhaps did one state discover someone trying to tamper with one of the ticket printers to print the "correct" numbers but a pre-drawing timestamp?

I don’t know what the hold up is.

I can tell them what the winning numbers are.

Did they have the drawing? I don’t see any numbers on their website?

Supposedly some state didn’t turn in their numbers. Each state has to send in each set of numbers sold BEFORE the draw. That ensures no rigging. One state had a technical issue and could not send in their sets of numbers. I don’t know, read that on some site about an hour ago.
