I’ve heard several people say that he had the 2nd best season of his career so he’s worth the $300m

It was his second highest AVG and OPS+ of his career... but those are the only metrics it could be considered that highly.

4th most runs, 4th best HR season, 6th best RBI season, 5th best actual OPS season. 3rd most games played, not counting of course 2020 when he was healthy but, you know, COVID. 4th best WAR season.

He wasn't on the All-Star team, probably won't get MVP votes... not sure how anyone could say it was his second best season.

He will clear that 27mil rather easily. Might not get 10yrs but 8/264 or something like that is in play

185/6

He only got so much last year because it was a shorter term deal.

I could see that with an opt out after 4 or some mutual options or incentive options at the end. Still won't get close to the 10/$350M he wanted even if you factor in 2022's salary.

This was the plan for both sides before the season, he had the extra two years on the contract in case he was injured. The Twins had Royce Lewis waiting in the wings and just wanted someone to fill in. Now Lewis tore his ACL again so the Twins are kinda screwed.
They also had the lock out last season that kind of screwed over Carlos. I don’t see the Twins giving him a 10 year deal but a 5 year deal might be more realistic if he doesn’t receive more elsewhere.

STL talked to him when he was a FA and we've already confirmed we're in it for one of the big SS's. I'd take any but Xander is my choice.

He only plays in contract years. He gets a 10yr contract, he’s missing 40-50 games per season for the next decade.

Bonus watching him in suit interviewing Peña after the game today.

He wants to sign a long-term contract, and nobody can blame him since they are fully guaranteed.
