Yea you are right both Miles and Coach O were better coaches than Brian Kelly.

The idea of making your entire case against a coach, based on 6 games into his first season, using an arbitrary number you just came up with to fit your argument, is brilliant.

I’ll be sure to read all your posts in the future.

Those two periods are not the same as this period. Most schools would've killed to be where we were even in 2017 for talent. Comparing apples to a kangaroo.

This has much to do with the style of football we were playing during this entire time period from saban through miles. It worked very well for us. Centered around running the ball and playing damn good defense so that we could control the clock. We would slow the games down. Resulted in less touches of the ball. Less scoring. We would not have changed had bama not pumped up their style of ball.

He's a fricking retard. Les got the luxury suite package with all the bells and whistles. O got an elite defensive coach whose defense finished top 5 in scoring his first year, two RBs that would both get drafted in the top 2 rounds, 2 WRs that are still starting today in the NFL, and a dominant run blocking OL catered to our style of offense.

Kelly got a total mess and back to back 5-5 and 6-6 seasons' team.

He had to totally overhaul a culture, a roster, a coaching staff, and a football ops staff. Go back and see the losses Saban had at LSU when he had to overhaul everything. If home field is supposedly only worth 3 points, we lost to UF on the road 41-9. Pretty much the same damn game. We also lost to UAB (Ed O lost to Troy). We then lost AT HOME to Florida the next year 44-15. If my calculations are correct, that's not much different than 40-13 vs a top 10 Tennessee team.

We had 39 guys on scholarship in our bowl game last year.

People keep using this to justify this year’s shitshow and it’s baffling.

LSU had many players out with injuries and academic suspensions for a bowl game a year ago that neither of these two coaches participated in.

How do so many people find any relevance in this?

LSU had the 6th ranked roster in 2017, they have the 8th ranked roster now.

Apples and kangaroos, huh?

And you don’t think O would have gotten transfers? We needed a kicker and a quarterback after 2017, and I’d say he got a pretty good one of each from the portal.

You’re right
They should have never shite canned Orgeron
He was on the rebound and had the program trending back up.

O’s lack of appreciation for Aranda was one of his worst blunders.

I’m not saying the guy was perfect, but he had shown the ability to bounce back from disappointing seasons and a willingness to adapt.

I don’t think Kelly’s ego would allow him to go out and get a Joe Brady to help design a scheme to fit his personnel.

Instead he wants to recruit a bunch of tight ends and force the same scheme that’s gotten him 0-4 in BCS/CFP games at ND.
It's obvious you have very little foresight. Once Kelly actually gets his personnel in, it will be clearly obvious just how dominant the offense will be. People are not going to believe 2024, hell, they aren't going to believe 2023.

Y'all really don't actually believe that, right?

It's a ranking based on only on stars. How'd those 5 star rankings work out for Ricks and Gilbert?

Not to mention Les' shellacquing at Auburn 7-41 in 2014 and his buzzsaw of back-to-back-to-back big losses v Bama, Arky and Ole Miss in 2015. What's the pernt?

I'm not sure what the point of this thread is, but we will have some bad losses until Kelly builds what he wants here.

Dinardo took over a program in the gutter, it took several years for him to make this a consistent bowl-eligible program.
Saban took over a program that had slipped off-course, and it took him several years to build a team capable of competing for the SEC West.
Miles took over a program in good shape, and he drove it for a decade of unparalleled success.
O took over a program that was still good but growing stale, he pushed some excitement into it, but took it off the rails.

Kelly is coming in, at about where Saban was. Good individual talent at spots, but thin and not consistent.

Ricks is a 2x All American and Gilbert was a key contributor his freshmen year.

Now, the 5-star Daniels - that’s another story. But, we aren’t allowed to say that - right?

Then it's a lie. Also, the majority of that roster is new to here less than a year because transfers and it doesn't account to crumbled and rebuilding culture.

Yeah, Miles and Orgeron always had a stout defense that could keep it close. We don’t have that this year.

It’s tough for the defense to keep it close when your awful special teams gives the opposing #1 ranked offense the ball inside the 30 yard line on the fist 2 drives of the game. Then they continue to have great field position throughout the game because your offense can’t convert a 4th down

Saban won the SEC CHAMPIONSHIP in only his second season. In his third season, that bad 2002 team, he tied with Arkansas for the SEC West champion (head-to-head loss). And Saban won the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP his fourth year.

Miles can thank Brandon Harris for your moral victory, because he damn sure got his arse kicked all over Tiger Stadium for 3 quarters and 3/4 of the 4th by State in 2014. Let’s not forget that.

Let's not forget we were a Hail Mary away from winning that game.
