Tuesday’s missile flew a distance of about 4,600 kilometers (2,858 miles), with an altitude of some 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) and a top speed reaching Mach 17 – meaning 17 times the speed of sound, according to Japanese officials.

CNN

However, when Trump said we had a 'Super Duper Missile', that could travel that fast, he was mocked for suggesting it was special. By Popular Mechanics no less.

We have missiles that can reach anywhere in the world in less than 30 minutes.

ballistic missile traveling that fast have been around since the 60s and 70s. ICBM technology is not new, the only tricky part is delivering a payload.

The recent hypersonic missile talk is about missiles that are launched in atmosphere and transverse within the atmosphere in a non ballistic trajectory without ascending into space. Ballistic missiles are able to achieve extreme speeds because they exit the Earth's atmosphere where there is no air resistance. North Korea having ballistic missiles that travel at Mach 17 has nothing to do with what your referring to.

Sort of. We are light years ahead of everyone else in this regard, but what are you talking about? Circular Error Probable (CEP) of a mile, 500M, a house? Yeah, it gets complicated.

I do believe this is error cause if you multiply 621 miles by 5,280 feet you get a 3,273,600 foot altitude.

Something is not right

What is the discrepancy? It said altitude of 1,000 km (621 miles).

Thats 3 times higher than the ISS. Why would an ICBM go that high.

for starters a payload bus that includes MIRVS and Decoys.
