Effing hell! There was a shooting in Lawrenceville over the weekend on Mary's Court as well. Looks like I'll be strapped from now on when I go to the Bass Pro over at Sugarloaf Mills. That mall started off with so much promise as Discover Mills and then went to hell quickly after being sold.
Might be time to pack up and leave Lawrenceville for Cedartown on the west side of the state.

I fully expect Lebron James to comment on this tragedy.

Far from it. It's a pretty nice suburban town, but it's growing rather rapidly as Atlanta expands outward in all directions. It's the county seat of Gwinnett County. Sugarloaf Mills mall is just off I-85 though, about halfway between Duluth and Lawrenceville proper. It appears that the culture of Atlanta is spreading this way though. Norcross (just to the west on I-85) has devolved a lot over the past eight to ten years. I fear this section of Lawrenceville/Duluth just off I-85 is doomed to a similar fate.

By and large it is not. Sugarloaf Mills is definitely not the hood. Especially not at 8pm.
But unfortunately hood people have cars, and they don't know how to keep their hood activities within their hood.
I'm so sorry for this kid and his family, wrong place at the wrong time.

I blame White Supremacy and the lack of midnight basketball leagues

Bingo. That D&B in Lawrenceville gets quite questionable when it gets dark. Last time I was there a few years ago it was 'not reflective' of the demographics in the town, shall we say.

I'm glad others are seeing it to because the left wing media's vilification of white males in recent years really is causing some of these incidents. Just like they were directly responsible for those police officers murdered in Dallas back during Obama’s term with their rhetoric they are doing the same to white males now
It's irresponsible, dangerous and should be criminal

Now Cedartown has some old school rural ghetto
You're the second or third person on here talking about it as a some escape paradise lately, have I missed a massive redevelopment or something?

I considered moving out that way last year. Found a real nice place on Dry Creek that I loved, but didn't make the offer in time. It was within 500 feet of the starting point of the Trail of Tears. I'm a huge history buff, so that was really appealing.
The big draw is that the noise of souped up Hondas, emergency services sirens, and Mariachi music played loudly into the evenings is slowly but surely making its way toward my once very quiet neighborhood. The demographics are changing as Atlanta sprawls further and further. Hall and Forsyth counties were once an option, but even they are starting to get overrun. Cherokee County might be a decent option as well. Maybe someplace like Ballground. I still like Gwinnett and Lawrenceville, but I can see the writing on the wall.

Lawrenceville is pretty big. What area are you in? I'm in what I call Grayson, but the post office calls it Lawrenceville. The souped up hondas and mariachi is creeping in here too. In fact it seems to have creeped all the way into Walton.

I’m just off Scenic Hwy in Windsor Farms subdivision. About a mile and a half from Central Gwinnett HS.
That GA-20 from Lawrenceville to Grayson is chock full of Eastern Europeans with their souped-up Hondas sounding like a Singer sewing machine that’s about ready to explode!
Grayson’s a nice area though. Our veterinarian is over that way. My favorite liquor store too. Had to give up the bottle though, so fewer trips that way these days.

Hell No! Lawrenceville is not ghetto. The OP failed to mention this was a drug deal gone bad, perhaps.

I'm off Scenic Hwy, too and Grayson has some shitty restaurants. I guess South Gwinnett County in general has shitty restaurants..

Maybe we need to meet up at the Oyster Bay or that new Cuban place in downtown L’ville sometime. Those are at least TWO places I know that have good food!

I've been to Oyster Bay and pretty much everywhere in D'town Lawrenceville except Uncle Jack's Tavern. I'm glad you just told me about the new Cuban place. I'll look them up.

I've been here since 2017 never heard of these places. The only good mexican in Grayson just closed permanently. Tell me about oyster bay and the new Cuban place, pretty please.

Which is why I laugh about how Cobb and Gwinnett were against MARTA expansion ("citing" crime concerns) yet significant parts of both counties still had areas go down the toilet.

I was about to say, Is this what used to be discover mills. Jeez, never would have thought that going to the mall in hs could be a death sentence.
